it was well deserved. I went against a CL65. I felt like one of those annoying little dogs attempting to bully around the big boy. Anyway, the beating was on Sea World drive in San Diego. The three lights we raced from I ended up about 2 to 3 car lenghts behind. I really don't think that is to bad but it was definitely not good for the V's ego.

no maggie, but i was really agggresive off the line so he would not be able to get the huge jump. I believe the CL65 and E55 have the same performance numbers but obviously different engines.

Good friend of mine has a CL65, there is no comparison to the V. The CL65 is in supercar territory in my opinion. V12 bi-turbo...I mean there really isn't much out there that with that kind of technology and power numbers. The V could hang with his his CLK 55 amg - which as NA, but not the 65. A maggie could definitly close the gap some.

Three V's plus one GTO = one CL65 = 180k

............ - OR -

One V plus 20 maggies = one CL65 = 180k

... well, you get the idea.

I agree with lasstss. :)

No shame in that loss. How would I spend $180k?????
One V and one slightly used Lamborghini Gallardo, thank you very much.......:worship:

The bad news is...

The guy in the CL65 probably wasn't flooring it! :stirpot:

Those things will leave an E55 at the starting gate! Seriously, it's close to Carrera GT or ZO6 territory. (Hehe, I put a Carrera GT and the Z06 in the same league  )

I would've done the same thing, there's no shame in getting it handed to you by that car and they're fun to watch launch.

:thehand: New ZO6 all the way ($73k)...nothing can really touch it unless you get into the high-dollar/mod territiry (Saleen tt or Carrera GT). Buh-bye CL65, E55 and whatever "E", "C", "M")...it will run with the best. Best bang for buck, hands DOWN...compliments of the good 'ole USA.

Test drove one this past weekend and the power that thing has throughout the rpm band is amazing! Wild!

Estimates are quite high on the CL65. It's just stupid fast considering it's as big and heavy as a 1976 Sedan De Ville. (at least as heavy anyway). According to this stuff the E55 will out run the CL65 in a quarter mile, I'm just not buying into that. More like sub 4 sec 0-60 and I'd bet on high 11's (maybe low 12's) in the quarter.

180,000 for me = new CTS-V with extras (exhaust,FG2,Clear Bra,Tint,UUC,ext warr, etc) A big chunk of change into a new place to live and then a bitchin house warming party with drink and several females to live in sin for a weekend. Then it would be back to normal and driving the V.

I agree that it's mindnumbing that an E55 can hang with a CL65, but a few of the people on the E55 boards say the exact same thing (uncle owns a CL65, but he can barely beat me in my e%%, atc.)

I looked up all the perf. statistics from C&D magazine. I would think that they would pretty much treat every car they test in the same manner. I am guessing that the E55 may be geared differently so that it can keep up with the M5. The CL65 is just pure power cruiser that could be more dangerous with some engineering mods to the gearing. ohh, BTW the E55 weighs in at 3900lbs vs. the CL65's whale like size at 4800lbs.

lol... So you did what i did. Take the jump and make them play catch up?

I feel ya, a friend of mine has a S65, (4 door s class with the 65 motor) I jumped on him one night knowing i was going to loose and boy did i. we where rolling about 60 mph I went into 3ed put about 3 cars on him 6700 rpms power shift 4th and he is already passing me in the emergency lane, I hold it to the floor and he then puts oh about 20-40 cars on me in no time at all. Granted i knew i was going to loose becuase i had many things going against me
1) 67 corvette,
2) biaply tires
3) 4 speed
4) 3:73 gears.
On the plus side i have built motor, 13.5 :1 compression, .30 over, GM race cam, "good gm heads ;)" and the list goes on... car is pushing about 425- wheel hp all day long. I even told him with my gear change (4:56's) i wanted to go from a light. he lol and said "youll still loose" which im sure he correct. He said that this is the fastest street car he has ever had and his list is LONG, He said he is not 100% sure but straight line acceleration it feel faster that his GT3 Cup car. This summer he want to track both off them for fun to see the difference.

I read some post the other day they said with miles those cars are going mid 11's now! and some have done 3.2 to 60.... I just dont see how 750lbtq goes to 265 and does not have a major tarction problem!!

The problem with the benz is traction . 0 to 60 times on an sl600 or an sl 65 are the same. One has tons more power but it is just impossible to get the power to the ground. Once your rolling it is a different thing though.

so my next car was going to be the 997 S but since my wife is giving me crap about practicality for a child seat I have decided on an E55. Before I do get the E55 I am going to wait and find out what the new V and M3 will be like. If the new M3 or V live up to all the hype, I will end up with either one of them.
