Easy cam and LT install on my friends 05 GTO....Thursday night, drive the car on the lift, raise about 18" to the first lock, drain the fluids and do a quick easy teardown of the top and front of the engine. Friday after work and the cam is in, while seating the balancer... uh oh, the balancer bolt has tq'd itself in the there and finally snaps Saturday a.m. F*%k, here we are with the balancer seated and the stock bolt broken off 1/2 way into the crank. No problen, off we go the hardware store for a 3/4 grade 8 bolt drill and tap kit. My buddy drills and taps the crank for the bolt while get the drvs. side header installed. He tries to screw the bolt in the crank and he notices that it slides in and won't engage the threads. They mis marked the tap's drill size and now the hole is to big for the 3/4 bolt!! O.K., last shot, let's get a 1" bolt tap etc. So here we are, Sunday morning, trying to find a 7/8 bit to drill the hole so we can tap for the 1" bolt. :thepan:

Chris,

No good deed goes unpunished. I have enough bad luck when working on my own vehicles, most of which I never post here because frankly it's too embarrassing. I'm too afraid to work on my friends cars for the very reason you posted above. I hope you guys get that thing buttoned down and back on the road again.

Chris

Ghetto Racing Inc.

Found the 7/8 drill bit (thank you GOD) ended up making a 1" stud and nut'n that F'r on. Car sounds badazz with a 232/234 .595/.598 112 Kooks LT's and GHL exhaust. Pulls a bit better also.

For you guys with lifts, if you get a Wayne Dalton garage door opener, you can get rid of that junk on the ceiling.. (torison spring only).

Would probably make an interesting thread to share all our mod pain.

FYI - Direct Lift Pro Park 9 I got for $2375...9,000 lbs capacity.

Hahaha! I think anyone who does their own work has ran into a situation like this. Man I feel for you, that kind of stuff will ruin my whole week.

I tore the UCL of my right thumb a month ago, finally got to see a specialist on Monday and she promptly got me into surgery Tuesday. I've got pins, tendon grafts and an afribulation problem coming out of anesthesia. So instead of daysurgery, I get to stay inthe hospital for 3 days and am on blood thinners and pressure reducers and don't go back to work until the middle of next week at the earliest.

That's a good few grand out of my pocket...so no heads tis year. And my typing is atrocious.
