View Full Version : 2.8 pulley, ported throttle body and tune...

Finally stole some time from Damian (Drift-Caddy) and got my 2.8 Maggie pulley on; also LPE ported throttle body. Tried to put in the Volant CAI just for yucks too, but we were less than happy with the fit, so that now sits in my trunk, to be returned.

Popped the car onto the Mustang at F-body Central and Brett/Damian worked it for a somewhat conservative 396RWHP/407RWTorque. Previous tune with the 3.0 was on a DynoJet and I think I was at 373 RWHP in the burning heat. I'm not looking to break any records here--what's more important is that the guys took their time with my car and smoothed out everything, including some pinging I was getting with my previous setup.

Of note was that my intake air temps were in the 150-170 range and it was about 65 in the shop.

I got the "you need headers" lecture, and Jason there is going to hook me up with some Kooks without cats. At that point, I think we'll be able to wring it out and tune it a lot more accurately. Not sure which will come first--a stouter rear or the additional bolt-ons. Will definfitely stick with this shop for the Dyno work. Glad I quit the country club....was a fun ride back from Baltimore though...

Thanks Damian, Brett, Jen and Jason!:worship::bouncy:

OK I may have this all wrong, but wont putting headers on a Maggied car make it lose power?? I was told that the Maggie needs some back pressure, that's why I never did the headers. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've heard that about long tubes, but not sure about all headers. I'll let you know...will make the tuning in my car alot easier though--thinking about going MAF-less too.

The original B&B mid-length TriY style headers help the Maggie - trust me. I sort of regret taking them off and selling them :nono:

Add some timing, the stock Tune from Magnacharger is VERY week on timing. I'm up to running 28deg now total, VS the 19 that came in the "box tune" from magnacharger.

I made 482 RWHP with the 2.8" pulley

I have the 2.6" on the car now, should be over 500

This car was tuned on a Mustang dyno. with WB O2. I bought the pulley from LPE, not Mag., so no box tune here.

Like I said, I'm going to wait until I can get some headers and ditch the cats before I push it at all. That way things can be monitored a bit better than the way my car is currently set up. A stronger rear will help, too.

If you're making that kind of power on the stock bottom end, great. Personally I'm not expecting to go that far with the blower until the internals are shored up. Not sure my car could ever make those numbers with just the blower.....and/or other bolt-ons:hmm:

Well thats cool, and nice number but you cannot run 28deg of timing without some help, and this is a very safe tune, Also can you post up your dyno graph?? love to see it. also what mods do you have? To make that much power i am going to asume u have no cats and meth/alky and some other bolt ons. i have done alot of these cars and have never seen thoes number without some way of cooling ur charge temp. Any track times yet for that car?? Also if anyone want to dyno and to tune ur V just let me know, can have a fun time and meet up for a cookout.
thanks

Mods that were on the car when it made 482

Magi with 2.8" pulley
Snow water/meth kit
cat "test" pipes
Magnaflow Exhaust
LPE CAI
LPE Throttle body
LPE Flywheel

About to hit 21,000 miles on the car with the Magi and most of those mods and the agressive timing (LPE Flywheel, and LPE TB only have about 6K miles on them.) And now I have about 2500 miles on it with the 2.6" pulley and most likle well over 500 RWHP

Stock bottem ends in Vets hold up to 550+ rwhp all the time.

You can with a water/meth kit.

If I can get sombody to scan my dyno chart I'll be glad to post it. It made all that power with a sup 10 to 1 A/f, I have it leaned out quite a bit now, I cant wait to see the new power #'s.

Those that say it cant be done are usually interrupted by those that are doing it.

The car ran 13.3@114mph with a 2.55 60ft at 3600ft in Roswell NM With nothing but the Blower with 2.8", the Box tune, LPE CAI, water/meth kit and a Timing tuner. Stock cats, stock Exhaust ect.

Damian--how come I didn't get any cook-out? Only barbecue I saw was Jenn's jack-stand, duct tape, and the test pipe LOL (not to mention my ears when my wife met me at the door at 9PM on Fri). Come on out here and I'll show you city boys how to cook out, and how to eat crabs without a wooden hammer.

I guess put meth injection on the list, too... 500rwhp?:bighead:

500rwhp, thats it. Ok lets not be a dyno queen now and make high hp number and sucky track times. Next time we are going to do some fine at the track..

Yea i can look into new diff, now do you mean upgrade diff or new diff?? Got a few Vs coming out for a dyno day and some dyno tunes, you should stop by and say hi and go to the track with us. If anyone else is near the Balitmore area stop by and say hi and let see what your car can do. We also have a 1/4 sim on the dyno. So bring anything on 2 or 4 wheels and lets have some fun

thanks
