Well 8 months after GM first hinted at the new NavDisc site and call center in their 2006 marketing package release, the site is finally up and running as is the number.

www.gmnavdisc.com (http://www.gmnavdisc.com)

(877) NAV-DISC (877/628-3472)

According to the site there is an updated disc available for 05 model STS navs:

Now as for any "Grandfathering" for 05 owners?

From the site FAQ:

Q: Are customers who own '05 MY or prior systems going to receive this benefit?
A: The owners of '05 MY and prior GM vehicles equipped with a DVD-based factory navigation system will be able to order a disc update or disc replacement from the GM Nav Disc Center at market price via the Web or toll-free number. Disc replacements but no disc updates will be available for CD-ROM navigation systems.

As for the call center:

After 22 minutes on hold I hung up. Since I do not need to order the new disk I'll look forward to what others report on the actual release date and any info specific to map data and VM inclusions.

Looking forward to the first posters with orders and timelines to actual receipt and use!

Thanks. I'm sure many are interested although most will probably go ahead and order as $207.00 isn't toooooo cost prohibitive (regardless of whether GM should have paid or not).

I ordered one on 3/13 and it has been shipped UPS with expected delivery 3/22.

Quick turn around. Let us know how it goes!

Also, usually there is a NavTech copyright date on the back of the case/manual. Please let us know what that is if you find it.

Thanks!

I checked my disc this morning and it has the same part number you mentioned ...4606. I don't know about the rev 2 part but I have had this disc since I got the car in Dec 05. Does this mean that I hae the newest disc, or did GM recycle the PN and just add the rev 2?

I started another thread concerning the version number but it makes more sense to place it here.

Has anybody found the on-screen software version number of the installed disk? My previous navigation systems did have one screen that gave the technical details, version, and serial number of the disk.

Received the Navigation disk today. Definatelya different part number than the original disk and this one is called Version 2.00. The booklets are slightly different in that version one listed detailed cities. There seems to be an expansion here in which the Counties are the main topics with much longer detailed lists of cities under it. POI's have definately been updated as I can now find some the the restaurants etc which I could not find on version one. Cannot verify so far that the map itself has been updated. The line drawings in the booklets of the included areas are the same for all regions in both versions

Interesting that the copyright notices for Denso, GDT, Info USA and National Research Bureau have all been updated from 2003 to 2004. The 2004 Visa Corporation copyright is the same in both version = 2004. That would mean that the copyrights are at minimum 1.25 years behind the current date.

Checked the disc yeaterday and it says Rev 2.00. So I guess this is the same part as the new discs that just became available. Had mine since Dec 05' with the new 06'. Sorry to dissapoint, but the VR is not much better than most people are complaining about. For some reason, it just stops working correctly one day and then starts working again the next.

One strange note, I asked "Phone dial name" and the reply was temperature 29 degrees! Why would it even respond with such a crazy request that it could not possibly comply with. By the way it changed the temp to 81 degrees.

I forgot all about the voice unrecognition system until reading your note. Thought occurred to me that maybe Cadillac had changed the program options with the new disk. So I looked at every window but cannot find any differences. Then tried the voice command "Navigation Help" with the response being "sound system softer" and then the radio got louder. :wacky: :bonkers:

I've also had DVD version 2.0 since I got my car in January. The VR has been pretty terrible. I've started recording my attempts at using it and may eventually post here for humor value.

I recently tried
"Memory set driver one."
to which the car responded
"System temperature sixteen point five."
But it then set the system to 80 or 90.

A word to the wise -- don't try to decipher the version number. It might mean something to an engineer at Denso or AW or Zenrin or..., but it doesn't have anything to do with the currency of the disc. Stick with the GM part number!!

There might be a software update for the STS nav system available. You have to check with your dealer. If they don't sell many cars with nav, ask them to look up the service bulletin.

Are you talking about a software update other than the Navigation data disk?
....??? prom update, for instance, that the dealer has to program into the system?

Just got off the phone with a very helpful customer service rep - while the following is available GM part #: 15794606 and Version 2.00, a new release is scheduled for August 2006. She wanted to make sure I knew that before placing an order - just in case I wanted to wait for the latest version.

Version 2.00 has been available since the 15th of March. Your part number is correct. It can be obtained by calling the NAV DISC CENTER at 1-877-628-3472. You can also check for updates at www.gmnavdisc.com (http://www.gmnavdisc.com).

I've been using the update since March 20.

The Total cost with Shipping was $207.00

Are the new disc's instructions a little easier to comprehend ? I have a hard time programming the one that came with my car. I received my 05 STS 1SG in October 2004, one of the first ones to arrive in my city.

I did not detect any differences in programming. It would seem that the only difference is the mapping data on the disk and an update of the 'Points of Interest'

As I had mentioned elsewhere, although I had no nav problems with the old disk, since I put the new disk in, the system does not recognize the disk occaisonally and tells me no disk is in place. Not sure if this is just an isolated problem with this disk or a bug in the program.
