Looking at a 2002. Just curious what folks are seeing for mileage with a well broken in engine? Truck just ended warranty. Any recommendations for extended plans?

Thanks
Luxy

I had an 02 Tahoe with the 5.3 and that got between 17 and 18 mpg fairly consistently. I was just wondering how much worst the 6.0L would be.

My 03 with 50k miles is getting 14.2. Approximately 95% of my driving is stop and go. I run 5W 30 synthetic oil also....I'm told it helps with mpg slightly but have nothing legitimate to back up that claim.

Ive posted alot of comments about mileage last summer. There are so many factors that change the results. At the end of the summer I put on a set of 22's and I thought that they really hurt my highway mileage (from 17.2 to 15.3) Today, I took a 40 minute drive on the turnpike with my stock 17's on. Coming home there was alot of traffic and I was tired, so I stayed in the right lane ( very very rare) set the cruise control for 50 m.p.h.(also very very rare) and I got 20.3 m.p.g. I am convinced that steady cruising on the highway will greatly change your mileage results more than my thinking that my 22's where the trouble. The 17.2mpg results I obtained were on a 3 hour trip on an expressway doing 70m.p.h with 17's and the 15.3 mpg results were with my 22's going at least 75 mph. SPEED changes everything. I am curious to see what I will get doing 50 mph with my 22's.

I meant to add in that steady cruising on the highway will give very different results based on speed.

my avgerage economy has not moved from 14.9 ever... i think its destined to stay at 14.9 for the life of my truck

Lade, I agree that steady hwy cruising will yield different results depending on the speed. An Escalade isn't exactly aerodynamic and drag is directly proportional to the frontal area...at least if I remember correctly. Your speed will also be affected by the tire size change from stock 17's to 22's. The larger dia./ circumference will read slower.

Hey Falko, remember that the info that is gathered to give the average mpg is cumulative. So if you havent reset it for say 8 months or a year, then your driving habits for 1 day will have very little effect on your average results. Lets say for arguments sake that a Lade gets 20mpg at 50mph on a flat road with no affecting winds. Reset the average mpg function while stopped, accelerate to 50 and cruise for 20 minutes. Then reset it while ALREADY doing 50 and cruise for 20 minutes and see how different the results are. The first time will be lower because it averaged in the initial acceleration. If someone didnt reset the average function for say 3 years, than a day at the dragstrip with like 6 quarter mile full throttle runs will have little affect on average mpg's. Whew my fingers hurt.

If you're getting those kinds of highway numbers while averaging at least 70 mph during the entire time--i.e., DIC says your fuel economy is 18 and your average speed is 70--on the stock wheels...well that would lend some credence that wheel weight does make some difference, even if it's a small one. What kind of speed were you averaging to get those highway numbers?

In any case, I'd be a bit skeptical of anyone claiming that they were getting 19+ mpg out of their 6-liter Esky (or any 6-liter GM truck/SUV, for that matter) while averaging at least 75 mph the entire time...not unless they either had a pretty good tailwind at their back or were coming back home from a trip in the mountains (meaning, plenty of downhill travel).

Me--I can get 15 mpg out of the Esky, and 16 out of the relatively-heavier DXL (w/ 22" wheels/tires--which BTW are 20 lbs. heavier than the stock combo) while averaging anywhere between 70-75 mph.

I also have exhaust, Volant air intake, and my computer has been reprogrammed, all these things helped MPG

I get between 12 and 13 mpg city and I drive like a nut. I am constantly driving fast. If you are in Florida and see a White Diamond Escalade fly past you, it is probably me. Haha. Anyways, I get about 14 - 16 mpg on the highway most of the time and I can sometimes pull something around a 18 mpg highway drive sometimes. That is only when I am driving nicely.

Thanks.

That is pretty bad. I am on open Florida roads and the worst I have ever managed to pull was 10.8 mpg. I feel sorry for you man. Good luck with that.

Thanks.

Ah...I knew a reprogrammed PCM--among other addons--had to be involved in the fuel economy equation somewhere!

Like I said, it's almost practically impossible for a bone-stock 6-liter Esky or Denali to get 19+ mpg (even 18 is pushing it) doing 70+ mph unless you're coasting downhill or have a pretty strong tailwind at your back...or perhaps tailgating a semi...

According to the clock on my '02 Escalade, it shows i'm at 14.3 mpg. Hopefully it continues to go up. I cruise, and dont speed much at all and I drive around 60 mph or so.

Oh yeah, and I have 41K miles on my lade and on 24s.

My HID fogs are sold, my HID high beams are going in my 07', the exhast is staying on the truck. I will sell the Volant and have the instructions (if you want to call them that)
