I have a 2006 CTS-V with 3000 miles, and within this time i have had to add 5 qts of oil. Im also experiencing problems with my battery dying for no reason. I had an 2005 CTS-V that did the exact same thing. Is anyone else having similar problems or do i just have bad luck? please respond!

5 qts of oil gone in 3 k has to be a serious problem!!!was about a quart low at my first oil change at 5k??

I've had 8 LSx engines and never had any of them go through oil.

My 06........used maybe a 1/4 of a quart in first 1000 miles. Oil and filter changed at a 1000. Used a half quart between 1000-3000 miles. I'm not really worried about using a half quart every 2000 miles. My guess is that that is typical. Dick

Doesn't sound like your burning oil, more like your leaking it!

That is a lot of oil for only 3k miles.

Park over some clean paper and look for a spot.

I added a quart of oil and I only have 1800 miles on my 06..I do a lot of decelerating so maybe that is why.

From what I gather, the biggest culprit for high oil comsumption is high rpm.

Wow!!! My '05 has never used a drop and I check it often. Sumthin's very wrong with that motor, IMO.

Do you notice any dark smoke out of the pipes when you are driving, or on a cold start?
5 quarts of oil in 3000 miles, is something major, either a leak, blow by the rings or bad valve seals.

I changed my oil the last 2 times with 6.5 quarts and the I check the dipstick at the end of 3,000 miles and it's empty!

It's been said in other forums that some of the LS2s are having an oil consumption issue. My LS6 used up several quarts in the first 3,500 miles but never did it again. (My ZZ383 hasn't used a drop)

Oil is Cheap! Go beat the cubes!

Off the topic of the our LS6/LS2 V-motors but I'm going to ask it anyway becuase it's in the GM family:

NH Vrod, you stated that when there is dark smoke out of the pipes during a cold start it can mean what? I've got a LS1 in my Camaro and it just recently started doing this on cold start-ups. It's really never had any 'oil' issues. See, I take it to the local GM service center-dealership (where I bought the car), have the 60k done, have a couple emissions parts replaced, and all be goddamned if the car is acting different...it leaks a little tranny fluid or oil now too:mad: ...I've called to set up an appointment so they can find out where this leak is coming from. It's not a big leak but it's a leak none-the-less. In the SS's life it has NEVER leaked.

Black smoke on start up is indicitive of oil seeping past the valve guide seals and then burning. However, the way the LS6 is setup, that is not easy.

Thats right Heavymetals, on cold starts if you blow smoke for a couple of minutes then it clears up it is valve seals.

Alot of people here have complained about there battery going dead over night. Not sure the problem, but you should be able to do a search.

My LS2 has 25,000 miles and 15 track days(road course) and the oil level never changes. Let the dealership do the oil changes and monitor the level while your checking it inbetween services.

Not to rub it in but the stock Dana in the '05 GTO is holding up nicely. :)
