Never said I didn't like it - it's just butt ugly. Dadillac 03-08-06, 05:39 PM Almost all AMC vehicle's from the 60's and 70's. The Javelin and AMX are exceptions.

Fugleeeeh, but with three a breast seating. I~LUV~Caddys8792 03-08-06, 06:00 PM 1961 Fury was bad too, but I can think of the 1961 (?) Valiant...now THAT was an ugly car! I'll think of more later, I'm at work now, and I don't have my books to look thru... They made those right up to 1982!
One of our student teachers at school had one. It was made of duct tape. Night Wolf 03-08-06, 07:27 PM I think if alot of these Pontiacs didnt have plastic moudligns on them they'd look alot better.
That is an '03+ SE, as you can see there are *NO* plastic mouldings. IMO it looks worse. Without the mouldings, it looks like the Alero. So its hard to say they will look better without the plastic cladding... when there is none :).
Just wait til Rick sees that....
"When the shit hits the fan, I'll be sitting on the can!"
No, see, with people like this you are dealing with, you need to really lower the maturity level. This car was posted because of the prevoius threads. So I am not even going to give him the satisfacation of making a reply. It's like a little kid, if you ignor them, you hope they'll stop... most the times they don't though and will just keep carrying on.
What is with strange references too.... "testerosa lines"? They are called ribs. "fly eyes" sorry, that is the Pontiac honecomb pattern, same thing on the grille. I never heard of either of those references before.
Sorry though, if you don't like the looks of the 4th gen Trans Am.... well, theres a Civic waiting for ya :). mccombie_5 03-08-06, 07:34 PM Sorry, my mistake, although compared to a one I just saw on google with the side moudlings I definately prefer it, that front bumper still echoes the ones with them on, did they change it?
If they changed that I would probably like it more, definately an improvment over the other one. Night Wolf 03-08-06, 07:41 PM front bumper is not changed. The SE bumper has the lower grille looking thing, the GT bumper is nice with the double big openings. mccombie_5 03-08-06, 07:47 PM front bumper is not changed. The SE bumper has the lower grille looking thing, the GT bumper is nice with the double big openings.
I think thats why I thought side mouldings, i'f they'd put a less garish bumper, without the air damn, and the spot lights, I think I'd like it more. Jonas McFeely 03-08-06, 07:54 PM http://i.b5z.net/i/u/509876/i/trans_am_tail_light_98_02.jpgIt looks like the eye of a fly.http://images.autobytel.com/view/aic/PONTIAC/GRANDAM/cpe/usa_2005_pontiac_grandam_cpe_2_x_exrrpass75_x.jpgI posted a pic of the grand am because i find it funny and i KNOW that at least one of you guys thinks so also.God Night Wolf, dont be so uptight,im just yankin your chain a little,i mean no harm :)
And i DONT LIKE CIVICS! FOR THE LAST DAMN TIME! gothicaleigh 03-08-06, 08:17 PM Pontiac has been responsible for some of the most god-awful designs to ever be put into production.
I am surprised no one has nominated this monstrosity yet, seeing as it's ugliness has become legendary:

But that car is stunning!!
:p gothicaleigh 03-08-06, 08:32 PM For a couple years there must have been a plastics company pumping out that cheap grey molding at bargain basement pricing. Everything was getting it.
The Aztek, the Avalanche, and not to be outdone, even Honda.
Although they took it to new heights by not just offering it as a molding, but as a complete fender set on the Element:

That thing is fugly, although my prospective new car is covered in light grey plastic from the mid-door downwards. Its actually MENT to be grey, and its not faded.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c249/mccombie_5/Stuff/rovr8_1.jpg My vote for loser was the AMC Pacer. In addition to ugly, it had a number of other problems:
- Car was intended to have a Wankel rotary engine. The engine wasn't ready so AMC crammed a straight 6 in. I believe you had to pull the engine to change the rear spark plug or two.
- The car was heavy with lots of glass, steel, and heavier engine. Plus, the engine had less power than planned.
- The large amount of glass overwhelmed the A/C and the passengers roasted in the summer.
- The right door was longer than the left to make it easier to enter the back seat. However, the hinges weren't made stronger. The heavy door sagged - badly. Night Wolf 03-08-06, 08:43 PM I think thats why I thought side mouldings, i'f they'd put a less garish bumper, without the air damn, and the spot lights, I think I'd like it more.
Well, look at the GT front bumper. Plus the GT has the very sexy side ribs. Spot lights?they are fog lights... lots of cars have them and I like them alot. mccombie_5 03-08-06, 08:45 PM My vote for loser was the AMC Pacer. In addition to ugly, it had a number of other problems:

Then they brought them to the UK, so the big, designed to help passengers safely step on to the pavement, door ended up on the same side as the steering wheel, the WRONG side...... so you swing your five foot long door into oncoming traffic Night Wolf 03-08-06, 08:47 PM Pontiac has been responsible for some of the most god-awful designs to ever be put into production.

Actually, when the lower cladding is painted body color (same thing for the Avalanche) it looks good. Actually, I never minded the styling of them... and compared to the ugly junk made today... Element, Scion xB and stuff... the Aztek isn't all hat bad.... if you get past the odd outside looks, its actually really roomy and nicely laid out inside, and the rear tent option was sweet.
The Edsel was so.....out there, that there is a huge following today. Also, outside of the quirky looks, it was a very advanced car.
Packard made good cars, they went under for a handful of reasons... samething with Hudson.... Night Wolf 03-08-06, 08:49 PM Then they brought them to the UK, so the big, designed to help passengers safely step on to the pavement, door ended up on the same side as the steering wheel, the WRONG side...... so you swing your five foot long door into oncoming traffic
Well, its still shorter then the Coupes doors :) For a 90's "smaller" car, those doors are pretty big.. I could just imagine them and that car in the tight spots of the UK, lol. TomDeville 03-08-06, 08:52 PM The Honda Element...
Also, that fugly mistake, which
I think was called the Aztek.
(I remember the gave one away
as a reward on Survivor, I was yelling
trade it for a fishing hook!!!)

INcidentally Rick,if this had been done to a non crude MS Paint inish by GM, I like this look, its very poor because I did it quickly.

It isn't so much of the tight spots, it was just getting out of your car at the side of a busy road would be lethal, it's bad enough with Grandad's Rover 100, for a small car that has big doors too.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c249/mccombie_5/Stuff/RoverGTa002editplates.jpg
Our old Rover 214i was a three door, so its doors were big, that wasnt much fun, I couldnt imagein swinging a Coupe door or a Pacer door into traffic, especially the longer door on a pacer. davesdeville 03-09-06, 04:01 AM http://www.uglycars.fws1.com/images/pt-cruiser.jpg

My dad bought an XM new in early '91 3.0 V6 the same year he got his XJ12, he wanted the XM to tow our mobile home with, so he got the Jag for normal daily use and the XM for towing once in a while, it was a nice car, but everything broke in about 1996, at which point he gave it to his wife and went back to buying GM, keeping the Jaguar until they divorced in 2001.
In 1997 she sold it, after the hydraulics totally failed leaving her stranded with no rear suspension, no brakes, no steering and no transmittion, total failure.
After that he vowed never to buy another French car.
I remember one clever feature was a window between the rear seat and the tailgate, so it didnt get cold inside when the back was open.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c249/mccombie_5/Stuff/XM.jpg I~LUV~Caddys8792 03-09-06, 07:20 PM After that he vowed never to buy another French car.

Seems somehow the foolish marketing at Toyota thinks these will sell. To whom? Probably Honda Ridgeline owners.... I~LUV~Caddys8792 03-09-06, 08:44 PM Hey....atleast its a change from the slab sided Chevy trucks out there... davesdeville 03-09-06, 11:00 PM ^So is the SSR, change isn't necissarily a good thing. Trucks should be slab sided. They look strong that way. Night Wolf 03-10-06, 12:21 AM That is a "step side" Tundra..... the '97-'03 F-150 step side is ugly too.... though the Tundra is just more ugly.
Actually the Tundra in 2000 was nearly a direct copy of the '97 F-150.... of all the trucks to copy they had to copy perhaps the most soft styled American pickup truck ever made..... I~LUV~Caddys8792 03-10-06, 02:42 AM ^So is the SSR, change isn't necissarily a good thing.
I never really said it was a good change, personally, the best looking truck IMO is the 1992-96 F-150. A VERY slab sided design. mccombie_5 03-10-06, 03:44 AM LOL!!!!
Seriously! His wife drove a Renault Safrane for a while too, her Renault Clio was in for a service and after the last cock up they made they owed her so she got the service managers car. It was pathetically bad.

I'm with you on this one Mccombie, I always had a soft spot for these Citroens. My dads friend in Greece had one and we would always go out with his family when we visited. I was young but remember the ride to be real smooth. I~LUV~Caddys8792 03-11-06, 09:38 AM Yeah I always thought those Citroens were really smooth riding due to that hydraulic suspension of theirs, but when that went out (which it did quite frequently) it was extremely expensive. You could say that those cars were too ahead of their time, the technology available at the time wasn't enough. Zorb750 03-11-06, 12:45 PM Yes. DS is cool. I mean not everybody in the whole city can have poor taste in automobile design... Zorb750 03-13-06, 03:42 PM Zorb, I was trying to pretend the B9 POS thing didn't exist...

a 2001 pontiac grand am lol Jonas McFeely 11-20-09, 03:42 PM No, see, with people like this you are dealing with, you need to really lower the maturity level.
Damn. Rick sure did used to be a complete *******. My how times have changed... :histeric: Jonas McFeely 11-20-09, 03:45 PM a 2001 pontiac grand am lol
Oh yeah. Ehh. My taste has changed since then. I dont think theyre that ugly. And apparently i posted that to irk Night Wolf. Him and i used to go at it a lot back in the day. Also, I thought Pontiac was trying to go for more subdued styling around that time period, trying to leave their boy racer look in the past. sven914 11-20-09, 11:28 PM hey now hang on I have a Pontiac they aint ugly! :annoyed: lol
As Stingroo would put it, "Holy three year old thread revival, Batman!"
I don't care what anyone says, these are the ugliest cars ever.

And yes, those things ARE hideous. They look like a cruel parent's alternative to Hot Wheels because they felt as if real cars had too many sharp edges. So far I don't see anyone really getting in the big leagues of "Butt Ugly." Really guys the aforementioned cars are really just in the "amateur" leagues of the "Uglies." Let's really get serious and get on to the "professional" league of ugly car design. Like the Jaguar/Daimler DS420 Limousine now that's ugly, or any number of coachbuilt limited edition Rolls-Royces built in the 1950's and '60's (the "Chinese eye" Park Ward coupes and dropheads come to mind). American design certainly captures some kudos in placing the Dodge and Plymouth cars of the early 1960's well into the ranks of the "professionals." The Germans were heavy contenders in this exalted league with their big BMWs of the fifties, not to ignore the Wartburgs and Goliaths. Japan had the Toyopet Crown and many other worthy contenders. GM's oft sighted Pontiac Aztec certainly should win the "Burgenstock Butt Ugly Award" while a host of "stretch limousine"s could certainly qualify. And of course, the Rolls-Royce Corniche, with its' top up or with its' top down, has to win the "they could have afforded something beautiful but chose truly ""Butt Ugly" award!
