I'm really surprised that no one noticed that March 5 was the birthday of Antoine de La Mothe Cadillac, the founder of the city of Detroit, and the namesake of the company. I've been more or less away for a couple days, and didn't get to posting something about it.

History of the automotive industry has always been my favorite kind of history to study, and this is peripherally connected to this topic.

Are we all going to forget Henry Leland's birthday too?

Detroit's French too. It means approximately "on the river" or perhaps more closely, "of the river".

This reminds me, we used to do all kinds of birthday threads (for members.) But now only when an attractive young lady has a birthday I guess.

When I hear "Detroit", the last thing I think of is a river. I think of GM and the downfall of the american auto business, and the ghetto, and rap.

Good one HRS, Henry Leland was the man. Cadillacs and Lincolns are estranged brothers. :D Too bad we can't have Cadillac's younger brother in the GM stable. BTW the Birthday threads must return!!

When I hear "Detroit" I tend to wonder why the city isn't named "Detoilet" instead.
