: What's your favorite design cue?

One of my favorites has got to be the body line that runs off the rear deck lid onto the rear 1/4 and forward on the late 90's Seville. Not sure what years have it, or if it's only on certain models (SLS, STS). It just always catches my eye. Here's a picture of one I saw on Ebay.

If you're talking Cadillac design cues, you have to mention tail fins. Cadillac started the trend in 1949 and stayed with it the longest, through 1964. After 1964, the rear bumper and vertical taillights on DeVilles and Fleetwoods retained some semblance to the fin. Even today's CTS, DTS and STS continue with the vertical taillights.

I figured tail fins would be mentioned pretty fast.
Here's a nice article about them. An interesting point is the name of the car in the article - LeSabre. Also interesting is the rear end of the car. Notice how much it looks like the first (movie) Batmobile. Cooincidence? :hmm:

I've always loved the verticle tail lights (hence the avatar). They started in 1965 I believe and have more or less been around ever since. I'm glad they are becoming more prominent on the new Cadillacs, the DTS has the best ones.

The way the hood dips down slightly between the fenders on the 92+ Eldorado. Same for the trunk lid.

The long straight hood on the 1980-92 Broughams... The lines on that hood, how they come from the outside, and as they come to almost meet in the middle of the hood, they also diminish in size..

Also, you can't forget the taillights on the 80-92 Broughams, and the 89-93 deVilles..A real throwback to the old days.

And like Jesda, I really like the raised fenders on the 92-02 Eldorado, and 94-96 deVille.

I like centered exhaust, on four door cars I like longer rear doors than the front doors to show off a long wheel base, chrome trim around side windows, I like many cars because they are low and wide or the design makes it look that way. In my opinion one of the greatest designs of all time is the '90 + Nissan 300ZX. It's still fresh to me to this day. From every angle the car is perfect.

I love all the sharp lines and edges on my 70 Eldorado! Especially that sharp edge along the rear 1/4 panel that runs through up to the doors...

Eldorado's trunk lid does not dip.

I also like the Eldorado's pronounced fenders. It gives it character as well as differentiation from the Seville's front end.

I always like the front end of the '67/'68 DeVille's.

For a full car, the '60 has always been my favorite, especially from this angle.

Styling cues that say Cadillac? Upright tail lights, hint of a fin, shape of C pillar and the shoulder that they rest on.

Most of these have disappeared. All of these are present in the Fleetwood.

That car doesn't count! It has STS wheels on it! It's clearly modified! Those wheels look to be from a 2000-2004 STS w/ sport.

No, seriously, mine's out of adjustment I guess, the recession of the trunk lid on that car is much more pronounced than mine. :annoyed:

I like that. Now to go about fixing mine...

Vertical taillights and raised fenders, as Jesda said....

That was really the ONLY disappointment in the STS/SLS design, the horizontal taillights.... from the rear, it just never looked like a Cadillac to me....

I like how the lines on the late 90s cadillacs are not really flat, but theyre not really round..... Theyre clean, roundy flat sort of..... its hard to say...

The 99 STS has a profile that sort of blends german and british design....

I'd call the 92-05 Seville styling "Italian American". Its like a Texan in an Armani suit.

92-97 is the Italian style.

I like the styling of the last gen. Eldorado and the 92-97 and last gen Seville. I also have to give a nod to the 89-93 Deville and the 94-96 Deville. As well as the 2nd to last and last gen RWD Fleetwoods. To sum it up: vertical lights and fender flares. And this: http://100megsfree4.com/cadillac/cad-log4.gif:D

Hello
Since i'm into mostly the 70's Cadillacs my favorit design cue's is the early mentioned vertical rear lights and fins. my favorit is also the pure size of the cars and the "old" most classic car badge of all in the autoindustri, the true crest with the wreath.

Tail fins and the quad headlight looks from the late 50s/60s.

Vertical Tail lights,

Big Chrome Grill,

Skirts,

Chrome trim,

hint of fin like 93-96 Fleetwoods and 65-66 Caddys.

I always liked the hood molding that starts at the mirrors and ends at the grill.

It be nice if Cadillac still made Cadillacs that look like Cadillacs.
