View Full Version : Looking at 02 Escalade need help dbarnard67 03-05-06, 05:17 PM I guys, new here, been reading alot on the escalade at this forum for the past few weeks. Need a little help from you on an upcoming potential purchase. I currently have a 99 Navigator that is OK but has the typical Ford/Lincoln issues: Noisy air pump for suspension, ABS sensor lights, jerky steering and a lot of body roll on turns. Looking at a 2002 escalade in mint condition, 49,XXX miles, for about $23,400. What would you guys think of this and are there any known problems with these? Wondering mainly on the supsension/ride, drive train comparisons, and the only other issues is fairly minor but like the two buckets in the second row of my nav, but the lade has a bench there. Can I put two buckets in there later after I have it? Thanks guys. Steelhead Jess 03-05-06, 07:54 PM I love my '02, but I've only had it for a month or so....
and I think I read that you can replace the bench with buckets, but it takes some modifying as the bucket second seat was not an option in '02.
Good luck, let us know what you decide. 05 Cadillac Escalade 03-05-06, 08:13 PM The 2002's are probably the nicest Escalade's out there. It had all the little features that are nice on an Escalade's. Small differences between the 2002 and the newer models. The steering wheel is completely different as well as the xenon lights in the 03+ and there are lights in different places on the 02's and so on. Anyways, the bench can be removed and replaced with bucket seats as I recall. It will be a big difference from the Navigator and I think you will enjoy it. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.
Thanks. dbarnard67 03-05-06, 08:22 PM Appreciating the feedback on this. Been trying to decide and have been doing alot of reading our your site here (very informative stuff). I like my Nav, but never really feels stable at speed, a lot of body roll, twitchy steering, fairly stiff ride. Everyone I have talked to and things I have read here say the Escalade sits with a wide more sure footing, air pump in back is not as noisy, and that ride inside is far better. Thanks for the input, will go take a look at it again tomorrow, anyone with any additional comments please let me know what you think. No offense, but obviously the deal he found is better. However, $30,000 for a 2002 with 47k should be worth much more than 30 g's. Its all these "quick2decide" people who take their Escalades to the dealer and let them go dirt cheap with the intention of putting it towards something else, when in reality they're losing for example $10,000 because they chose to be lazy and not sell it privately.
lol... :)
On the other hand, I will keep my 2002 until the value of that car is only a couple thousand dollars. I just bought my 2002 Escalade last weekend for $29,500 with only 40,000 miles. I'm happy with it. 05 Cadillac Escalade 03-07-06, 10:35 PM I just bought my 2002 Escalade last weekend for $29,500 with only 40,000 miles. I'm happy with it.

Thanks I'm also looking at purchasing a 2002 with 51K miles. I'm interested in the MPG folks are seeing with the 6.0L? Not really a purchase factor but just curious what people are seeing in the real world once the engine is broken in.
