View Full Version : 2007 Cadillac Escalade with Variable Displacement I am new to the forum and I am looking to buy a 2007 Escalade this summer. However, on the forums I have read that the variable displacement Escalade will be out in the fall. Is this something worth waiting for? Will the improvement in mileage be worth it? Will this drive up the price? I don't think it will drive up the price, it will offer better mileage for people doing a lot of highway driving, just how much increase is the question, and will it be trouble free. I am very pleased with the mileage I get, I get about 12.5 in the city and between 18 - 19 on the highway, that is much better than my last two Grand Cherokee's got. :) PeteESC07 03-02-06, 01:00 PM My dealer told me you're looking at about 25% overall improvement. The new Tahoe will get it first, then the Caddy. If it doesn't affect overall performance and power, I'm all for it. There's no reason to believe it will effect performance. If you're set on buying but can wait, I believe it's a feature worth waiting for. My Escalade gets 12.5 mpg city as long as I'm not running the a/c, and as low as 11-11.5 with the a/c blowing. I say the displacement on demand feature is loooonnng over due. PeteESC07 03-02-06, 01:47 PM Yup.....403 hp and 20-22 mpg will be an awesome combination! Falkolade 03-02-06, 03:21 PM the engine in the current 07's will be phased out this fall with the dod comes out... gm needed to get the escalade into production fast so they had to do without the dod and the power running boards, both of which will be out in the fall. Is there any reason to think there will be problems with this new engine? integline 03-03-06, 01:37 AM The engine should be fine, from what i have read here and heard from automotoive reports etc etx, you should have no problem. I also would wait. If you can pull morethan 17 or 18 mpg out of your suv thats great but if you can get 20+ man that would really put a smile on your face. Especailly since u still got 4 cyl.'s on tap to kick asss!!!!!

Wait wait wait.
I get 18-19 on the highway now with the computer tuning I have, I am sure with my 07' with the lower overdrive and after I add header and exhaust and tuning it should easily get 22 on the highway. :) Is there any reason to think there will be problems with this new engine?
It should be, but there has been many problems in the past when using this type of design, but the electronics are much better than in years past. slk230mb 03-03-06, 09:16 AM Is there any reason to think there will be problems with this new engine?
It's derived from the LSx platform, which is well tested. There might be a few electronic glitches, but I expect the drivetrain to be fine. Sta11ion 03-03-06, 11:30 AM I wouldd wait, there will be problems gaurantee with emissions . Dr. Steven 03-13-06, 02:02 PM I am interested in knowing where the information came from that said the there would be an Escalade this year theat has a Variable displacement engine. I am intending to purchase one, but I want to wait until this engine is out--if I can find real evidence that it will be.:bigroll: PeteESC07 03-13-06, 02:07 PM Well, the '07 Chevy Tahoe will have the new engine this fall....and according to "inside" sources, the Escalade will have the new engine sometime this winter or early next year at the latest. Falkolade 03-13-06, 02:55 PM gm has confirmed the engine will be out in the fall, along with the power running boards, and at least one of the platinim editions to be released... (note: all three escalade, and ext, and esv will have platinum editions), I think i read that either on dubs website, or custom car... but either way i think its best to wait until the fall if you want to spend the 60+k Mostly my driving will be in the city except for the 10 miles of highway on the way to work. I also will be towing a jet ski in the summer. Will I be receiving much of a gain from the variable displacement engine? caddycruiser 03-13-06, 08:17 PM Well, the '07 Chevy Tahoe will have the new engine this fall....and according to "inside" sources, the Escalade will have the new engine sometime this winter or early next year at the latest.
All '07 Tahoes and Yukons already have DOD standard on all of them, with the 5.3L. Same thing on the 5.3L used in some cars like the Impala, Monte Carlo, and Grand Prix that have been out a little while longer...and no problems to report at the moment. I'm hoping the numbers work for me to trade my 04 EXT in for an 07 EXT.
I have no intention of waiting for the DOD before I buy.
I want to hear and feel all 8 Cylinders running all the time.
If the DOD gets 5 more miles per gallon on average .. and with a 30 gallon tank that would be about 150 miles extra travel on a tank of gas.
If the average is 20 miles per gallon that eguals 7.5 gallons per tank of gas saved to cover the extra 150 miles.
At an average of $2.50 per gallon it's only a saving of $18.75 per tank of gas... if you run the tank almost dry before you fill up.
If you put Mucho miles on your vehicle it might be worth it I suppose but ... high miles lowers the vehicle value and probably doesn't even out the amount of money you might save on gas in the long run.
In my case I don't put a lot of miles on my vehicles.. but I enjoy having an Escalade for sure and I enjoy the power it offers.
My personal opinion..
I'm not rich but if I have to worry about saving $18.00 on a tank of gas I shouldn't be buying an SUV that cost 50K or more.
This country had 35 years to find alternative fuels or vehicles that got better milage. If they haven't done it by now they aren't going to.
I say enjoy the full power the vehicle has to offer. Surfer-Dude 03-13-06, 09:52 PM I don't really care about gas mileage, but I would love for GM to offer the Duramax diesel in their full size suv's. Easily modded to sick power and torque but with excellent gas mileage. Thought I read that GM will offer it in their new suv's at some point, think around 08'. Guess we'll see what happens. Doubt Caddie would have a diesel option though. cardio-doc 03-16-06, 08:59 AM It should be, but there has been many problems in the past when using this type of design, but the electronics are much better than in years past.
You're REALLY not referring to the V8-6-4 from 1981, are you? |
