I havent posted here that much lately because I have been busy. Monday Feb 27, 2006, my 93 Sixty Special died. I was making a left hand turn into a side road when a diesel mobile home towing truck, with the mobile home on it, decided to take the oncoming traffic lane to keep from rear-ending the van behind me. I turned not having a clue that a truck was coming the wrong way fast. The guy didnt even hit his brakes. He hit me in the side and shoved me down into a ditch where we came to a rest. You can even see there is clearly no brake marks on the road. I downloaded the photos to a website and have provided a link so you can see them. My whole family was in the car. I cannot beleieve that I am here today typing this.

I've been upset since you wrote to me. I am so glad everybody is okay, you are so so so lucky! I saw the 60Special....well, you don't have to bother selling it now! That's a total & a half. Pity
Get some rest. You'd better go to a Dr. Speak with that lawyer we've been talking about, 'ya know, just in case he tries to sue you. From what you wrote I can't really figure our anything except you were turning left going across on coming traffic, but where was "he" coming from ? Oppisite you, or behind you ? Is that a Junk Yard it's at ? Hit really hard...T-boned. How fast was he coming?

Its a two lane road with traffic going one way on one lane and the other way on the other lane. He was behind me, he was actually behind the van that was behind me. I slowed and stopped to turn and he wasnt paying attention. He then seen he couldnt stop, so he gassed it to get pass the van and me. I turned left and he smashed the drivers side pushing us all the way to where the ruts stop. The troopers that investigated the scene wrote him 9 tickets. The accident was clearly his fault. I know he got one for failure to stop, failure to maintain control of his vehicle, failure to maintain his vehicle on the right side of the road, reckless and imprudent driving, etc. 9 all together. Where the car is at now is the place that holds the cars till the insurance decides what to do. I talked to the insurance lady for my insurance and she asked if I was done with the car. I said yes, so it is now going to the junkyard. I have cried and cried because of the danger my family was in as well as me. I miss the car already. Even though I talked about selling it, I most likely never would have. Sandy, I even emailed you earlier this week and said I had decided to keep it. The doors were actually shut when I was stuck in it, they had to open them to get me out. Poor Taupie. They estimated the guys speed at 60-70 mph.

I can't, either. Holy crap!

The Cadillac carnage continues; this is even worse than what happened to Rick's '79 DeVille.

Blaze, I'm glad you and your family are OK. Were you hurt at all? It's amazing you put into a coma or the morgue considering the damage around the driver's seat.

That moron truck driver deserves a 10th ticket for destroying a beautiful Cadillac.

Holy cow that thing took a beating. I can't believe everyone came out of that okay. I betchya you're a bit sore, though. Probably got tossed around a bit. With an uncle in the salvage biz I have seen cars damaged less than that where I know there were serious injuries or fatalities. Someone was watching over you and your family.

Get a good lawyer - you'll be able to afford an excellent one with the strong case you have against that guy and his company. The 9 tickets is pretty damning evidence against any story he might try to concoct. Hopefully he/they were adequately insured.

The above statement is so funny!

Youbetcha is definitely blessed to survive this accident.

My dad was in a similar accident to this one many years ago. In 1985, he was driving his 1983 Coupe DeVille in a funeral procession when someone ran the light and hit him in the passenger door. I think it was a delivery truck. That car was destroyed just like yours. They said that he may not have survived if it wasn't for the heavy Cadillac doors.

Thank goodness everyone is ok. And I'm sorry to see a beautiful caddy go... but it went knowing it protected a family.

As others mentioned... go see a lawyer, and your entire family should see a doctor right away. A side impact like that causes alot of trauma to your neck muscles (scalenes and SCM) and possible nerve inflammation. All of you probably are feeling it right now (12-24hrs after accident). Whatever you do, don't put a heat pack on your neck, you'll make it worse. Get it documented and treated, then take necessary legal action.

Pretty strong build car, my dad's 2003 impala is hit the same way same side, but about 60% of that. You said family, how many people is that that was in the car? Don't you wish it was your 81 diesel? Ill give you a call tomorrow. I wasnt in love with my Lincoln. I just thought about selling the Cadillac and then I made a decision to trade it in on a Mark VIII. But then I thought of all the stuff I went through to get it going like new and finally I got in it and drove it to the city and it drove flawlessly. I then decided screw it, I was keeping it. I actually was going to take it to my Moms house and put it in the garage and take the 97 Lincoln out for a few months. What a waste. The Cadillac definitely held up. It did pin my leg between the door and the steering wheel, they popped the door open and then I was able to get out after I pulled my wedged foot out of the crease in the floor.

Thats why I say the Cadillac held up very very good. I was amazed that the plastic fenders that usually bust when you lean on them didnt break. The one drivers side one took some of the hit and still didnt even crack. Im just very sad that it happened to my sixty special rather than my town car which there is more of. I know sandy will say something about me selling it, but there is a difference in wanting to sell something and seeing it destroyed. I had a Bond, so to speak with the cadillac. The Town car and me have not bonded yet. Sandy, dont say one word about the Fifth Avenue. LOL

I think the 90-97 Body style town car rides the best out of any car I have ever rode in or drove, I dont care what anybody says. I can shoot down a dirt road and barely feel it. The sixty special rode okay down it, but sounded like it was thrashing the suspension. The Town Car gets good gas mileage and there is plenty of front seat leg room. I like the 95-97 the best because of the redesign on the dash and the little cosmetic changes on the front and rear end. The sixty special I had was perfect for the baby car seat. It fit with lots of room around it in the back seat. In the Lincoln, it actually touches the front seat armrests. The Lincoln is more concentrated on front seat leg room and the Cadillac wasnt. I'm tall and the Cadillac seat could have moved back some more for my tastes. The Lincoln town car 90-94 Signature series has the best seats out there, very very very comfy.

Yeah I almost bought a 1996 Exective Series with 138k miles for $3000. It was a pretty nice car, but I would have much rather had a Signature or Cartier. I drove a 1994 Signature Series in sort of a light lavender color with white leater seats, they ARE very comfortable, you just sink right into them and float away. I have to agree, the Town Car is the smoothest riding modern car, the Fleetwoods dont compare, and even the 1990 Brougham d'Elegance I drove doesnt compare. But on the other hand, they dont have that confident feeling that the FWD Caddies do, when I was driving that '94, when I was driving it somewhat aggressively, I got this feeling that I didnt know what the rear end was gonna do because you cant feel it, same with the steering! It doesnt handle anywhere near as good as the FWD Caddies do, even on that 1996, with the adjustable steering set as firm as it would go, it was still softer steering than on the '92 Sedan deVille.

Sandy, I would looooove to drive a '70s Lincoln, Imperial or Caddy, to get the idea of what a true luxury sedan is, but there arent many for sale in my area, and all the ones that are for sale are by private owners, and I dont wanna bother them.

Thank God you are ok. I have always read that these cars were one of the best in the industry in 1991-1993 for structural integrity and safety.

I have always preached to get a car that is SAFE, not the cheap junk little econo box that will kill you in the same type accident, but one that will keep you safe for your family or keep your family safe. This is why. You just don't know when it can happen.

We will keep you in our prayers Blaze.

Please see a chiropractor right away. My wife was in a minor rear ender and didn't and now 3 years later she is still in pain and she finally saw one and he said in 1-2 visits when it happened it would be done, but now it will take a long time to fix.

Oh, take a look at this one, sorry Sandy, it doesn't have a white interior, but is SHARP. http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/rwd-19xx-1985-deville-fleetwood-1985/67203-fleetwood-ebay.html

I used to own a 1993 Cartier TC... wonderful car minus the electrical gremlins and intake problems. I never got the chance to work on the suspension on that car (it always had something wrong with it), but it was more floaty that my 1996 Fleetwood was. First thing I did with the Fleetwood was rip out the stock suspension and put in Impala SS springs with Bilstein shocks plus Hotchkis F&R sways. Now that is what you call road feel.

I hate to say this, especially since my Dad has owned a couple '93 Sixty Specials.. but I think FWD V8 Cadillacs were part of GMs "dark period." There is a reason why the Cadillac line is back to RWD. Just my .02$

No, cloth was standard, leather was an option. Just that leather had a 75.57% installation rate, compared to Cloth's installation rate of 11.43%, making 3,999 of the 5,292 with leather & 1,293 with the cloth.

So wait, didn't the Sixty Special have heated seats standard? So that means they had heated cloth?

In 93 they didnt have heated seats standard, only as a option with the Ultra package.

In prior years the sixty special was a package added to the fleetwood, which gave you special seats, heated seats and 22-way power seats. In 93 the fleetwood went to rear-wheel drive, the roadmaster looking one. So they had to come up with a name for the FWD Fleetwood, they decided to call it a sixty special. The package of prior years that was called sixty special became the Ultra package for 93. A sixty Special Ultra will have the heated seats.

Ahhhh I see! So was yours the Sixty Special Ultra, or was it the Sixty Special?

Was it the ultra that had the 22 way power seats that had the different look to them?

Mine was just a sixty special. There is a Ultra in the Classifieds on here, it has the ribbed seats, 22-way power, heated.

Well I know you said you would have rather been in your Lincoln. If it were me I would have rather put my family in GM Engineering for safety not Ford. So on that not you can think of it as a sacrifice one love for 3-4 or whatever was in the car. Keep your head up and find a newer and nicer sixty special.

My family has already been through a accident worse than this one in a 97 Town Car and we walked away. When you hit something so hard that it pushes the engine back, shaving the camshafts off the top of the heads, punches the driveshaft through the differential and you walk through your front door in the next two hours, the car was built good. The only reason I would have prefered the town car is because they are a dime a dozen. There are not that many sixty specials out there with low mileage. The best car I ever had was a 90 Town Car. It has 388,000 on the orginal engine and has not given me any problems. The sixty special nickel and dimed me at first pretty bad, but I think a lot of that was the fact it sat a lot before I bought it. I have seen these Cadillacs last just as good. Hopefully, my next one will be a good one.

To me, a full frame Town Car just seems more solid than a unibody Sixty Special.

They are. I have seen many people walk away from Lincoln Crashes. But that Sixty special held up exceptionally well too.

Just to give you a heads up on whats going on:

The insurance for the mobile home company is saying it was my fault for not looking down the oncoming lane before turning, which is BS and we all know it. They also said that they will countersue me if I pursue the matter. Im persueing to the fullest extent. My Sixty was tampered with at the tow lot, where it shouldnt even be. Right after the accident my car was towed by a friend to his rebuilder lot, so no one would mess with it and the insurance could look at it. The very next morning at 6:00 a.m. a towing facility that does all the towing for the county when stuff gets crashed shows up to take the car and they take it to their lot. I get there and they went through everything in the trunk when the trunk wasnt even damaged or opened when I left the car. They ripped the rear vanity mirror out of the roof and tore the lower body accent panels from three doors and piled them inside the car. Somewhere along the line they also removed a fender skirt that was still on the car. Then they tried to stick me with a 1000 storage bill. I told them that they didnt have authorization from me to take the car. The lawyer is now dealing with it all. All over someone trying to pass me with a 16X80 mobile home on it, GEEZ.

So you were supposed to check your rear view mirror to make sure no traffic was coming the WRONG WAY, from behind, in the opposing lane? Did they say that with a straight face?

The other guy's insurance company knows they have big trouble on their hands. They'll try everything to scare you off. You're doing the right thing - let your lawyer handle everything. That's why you pay for insurance. Even if the storage place gets away with the $1,000 fee it won't come out of your pocket anyway. I'm sure it'll all get straightened out in the end. Now it's just a case of people trying to minimize their losses. Your lawyer will sort through it.

That is what they are claiming, however the follow car that was directly behind me and in front of the mobile home was so close to my rear-end I couldnt see crap. The lawyer said I could sue him for blocking my view.

Sheesh, Blaze. Sounds like the mobile home trucking company is just FULL of morons; that driver was not an isolated case.

I would think the NINE tickets the truck driver got would be pretty conclusive evidence that you're not the slightest bit at fault.

Hope your lawyer's a good one. Looks like you're going to need it.
