Last night I was driving home, it was really cold (-3 F) out so I just want to get home. While taking a slow turn I lost power steering and I was like WTF:confused: , almost ran into a steel trash bucket. Turn the key again and car starts right away. No SES light or anything. This is the first time my car just shuts off while I'm driving so is it just freezing gas or something temporary? It's a good thing this didn't happen when I was taking fast turns otherwise I would of ran into something and wrecked my car:crybaby:

My 89 deville had a problem with random shut downs while driving or sitting idling.

We had to replace some computer chip that was a few inches long shaped like a "C" under the distrubor cap. I have no idea what it was called as I was only about 17 at the time and knew jack squat about cars. :(

Fuel filter was changed also, pretty much all the normal maintenance has been done including the FPR.

That is characteristic of a bad crankshaft position sensor.

Did you lose ALL electrical power, or did it just stall? If you lost all power, double check the ground wire leading off of the battery, and both of your battery terminal connections. Mine misbehaved recently when the battery terminals weren't making a good connection.

It just stalled as if I took the key out:confused: Haven't moved the car today so I'll take a look at it tomorrow...

I took the car on an hour drive including freeway and city driving, nothing abnormal. Hopefully that was just a stupid hiccup since that night was really cold and I didn't warm up the car.

Weister if you read the forums alot you will notice a patern. There is alot of people that are having the same issues, including myself. I have it shut off sometimes on the freeway coasting or in the city coasting. Crank shaft pos. sensors is the most common reason that I have heard.
