Wondering what a 2004 m3 mods unknown (i think exhaust and dinan tune)
do against me (04 V volant, diablo predator, b&m, magnaflow) from about 80 mph roll.

Well, when you street race you need to be smarter when you have 2 car so close. 1st find out when he shift from 3rd to 4th at what mph. lets say he shift at 70 then race him at 70mph, he will be to high for 3rd and low in 4th to make any real power. But you need to do the same and find where your strong point is and you weak point. Best if you start out around 45mph. you will love it. With out know his mods its hard to say. But is he has the same mods then you sould win. Also practice. you will be amazed how many people miss shifts when they race cause that are all pumped up. good luck and have fun.

From a 80 mph roll, I think you lose. Your fighting weight and aerodynamics, and who races from a 80 mph roll?? Oh yeah, your gearing is not to your advantage either.

Basicaly it will come down to the driver, IMHO

my buddies got an 05' m3 same mods dinan exhaust and chip, takes him a while, well longer than me to get up to the high speeds, he's got me in the 1/4 13 flat, but I'm pretty sure your torque will dominate from an 80 roll, IMO the m3 isnt anymore aerodynamic than our car is....give it a shot and post back.

I would also think that the enormous advantage we have in torque over the M3 would allow us to pull at highway speeds. We do have about 140ft/lbs more crank torque and weigh less than 300 lbs more, right?

couldnt tell ya on the weight, I dont even know what our cars weigh, I do know my buddy put down a little over 300 rwhp with those mods and topped out at 202mph the same day, just took him a while, but he also needs to rev out to 9k for that power.

202 mph on the road or on the dyno?

Our cars weigh about 3800lbs and I'm pretty sure the M3 is a porky 3400. That's why the E36 M3 is often the better choice for tight handling courses (like auto-x).

If he's at 300rwhp and you're at 330-340ish then you are pretty much dead even considering the weight difference. Every 100lbs is about equivalent to 10whp and 0.1 seconds in the 1/4 mile...roughly. :)

I assume closed corse, non public roads, blah blah blah.

From 65 in 3rd, you eat his lunch. At 80, you either quickly top out third, and have to shift, or start a bit lower in the 4th power band.

I'd still bet you win from 80. You can't deny tourque, but it would be much closer. It is really going to depend how high you are going to race to at that point. To 120, you may not have the time to erase your slight disadvantage @ 80. I'd say no problem if you go to the top of 4th (140ish).

In testing (closed corse non public roads, blah blah blah), from 65-140 I lost to an SL55 by 1 car, and a new Viper by 2 Cars. Both were definately trying hard. 65-140 is definately our sweet spot.

Like the others have said, 'Sally Forth, then report back.'

202? Are you sure about that?

Do you know how much power that car would need to break 200mph! It would be an 11 second car in the 1/4 mile and it would walk away from a V

There is no way a M3 with 300rwhp ever hits 200 mph

You shouldn't have much of a problem. I would definitely go from a 50 or 60 in 3rd gear above 4K rpms to really get in the powerband. I don't believe a M3 with 300 horses would go 200mph for a second.

So if the M3 is porky, then the V must be an absolute heffer. You have a strange grasp of math. :alchi:

An M3 without all the dealer added options comes in around 3,300lbs, I know first hand since I opted for an '06 Competition Package coupe instead of the V. I switched over mainly because of all the negative press about the quality issues. I've been burned by GM with my Camaro SS vert, and I just couldn't go through it again!

Oh yeah, your gearing is not to your advantage either. Our gearing isn't too bad actually, with 3.73's and the ZO6 tranny ratios in our cars, they are awesome from a roll. 5th gear is less of a true overdrive in our cars than say a C5 vette or LS1 Fbody. I will say that the 5th gear in the M3 has an advantage over our 5th gear though. As long as the race doesn't go above 4th gear he's OK.

I call complete and utter BS on that one. He's gonna need about 500rwhp to pull that off.

FWIW my stock CTS-V lightly pulls on stock M3's. Out of the box we have an advantage, and mod for mod our cars gain more power than an M3 does. You're making maybe 20rwhp over stock, he might be making a bit more than 20rwhp over stock depending on how aggressive the tune.

Still wouldn't. He would have to stay in it for miles, even then 300rwhp wouldn't cut it.
