i posted this on the impala ss forum too. but thought i could ask here also.

im going to check out a 1992 roadmaster limited edition tomorrow. car is white with blue leather interior and has 110,000 miles. the car isnt in perfect shape (has some rust and im sure some other problems) and the guy wants $1500.

what do you guys think of this and what should i check to see if there are problems.

and also what do the codes stand for when you go through the climate control system? (which are bad?)

the back end seems to be low which is either due to the fact that the air shocks have a slow leak, the pump is not hooked up, or the air shocks are shot, and the sway bar bolt on the drivers side is broken. thats all i could tell from looking at it without him being there. the interior is mint and there isnt much rust on the body. most is on the frame.

anything specific i should be looking at when i go to check it out.

any problem areas on these cars. all advice is welcome and i need it soon seeing as i am checking it out tomorrow. lol.

thanks

Share photos. The price isnt unreasonable, but it could afford to drop a couple hundred.

i dont have any cause i found it on the side of the road two days ago in some guys yard and my digital camera is broken. lol.

so, the windsheild has a crack in the upper right hand corner that is goes from edge to edge and is approx 6 inches in length. its diagonal in the very top of the corner. quite a bit of rust underneath. engine doesnt leak anything. im going to put a deposit on it tomorrow so nobody else can buy it. and run it/drive it around for a while.

i'll offer hime $1000-1100 cash. think thats good?

oh and the trunk appears not to shut completely correctly on the one side. it is up very slightly, but noticeable when compared to the other side

I think thats a great price. When I bought my 1995 Limited Sedan with 138k miles on it, I paid $3450. Granted it had the LT1, but it was mostly the same car as the 1992's. Except the 92-93's have full instrumentation and the better interior IMO.

Side note, I almost bought a 1992 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency Elite with 164k miles for $1200 cash, so $1200 cash is a great deal for that Roadmaster with 54k less miles!

110k miles is about halfway through it's life if its been well maintained.

On my '95, the rear air shocks never worked either. The air compressor never worked, so we put regular shocks on it and disconnected the air line.

the guy just had a new tranny put in about a year and a half ago, along with a new computer. also just did all the brakes and put on a new exhaust system. he said he'll take $1300.

we'll see what happens

Good price I guess... and to each his own, but Id say hold out for a nice older Deville or something... I have convulsions everytime I see a Roadmaster Estate wagon... the sedan is not far behind.

My main problem with my Roadmaster was the lack of guages, and hard plastic interior. Both of those problems were nonexistant on the 92-93's.

1992 (not limited) interior:

-full instrumentation

1994-96 Interior -note the limited instrumentation; only speedo, gas and temp.

(that is identical to mine inside)

Ya but yours looks waaaay more modern inside.

I'd still go with the 92-93 Interior. It looks more warm and inviting. More wood trim, the leather looks fluffier and more comforable, full instrumentation, more chrome...

alright, well the test drive went very well. everything works perfectly and the car has MUCH MUCH MUCH more power than i thought. and it is soo comfortable especially with the power adjustable lumbar support that this car has. this car is completely loaded.

i would go with a nicer car, and i originally wanted a 2000+ sls or sts, but i dont want to risk a car that nice considering where i am probably going to school. . . . FLINT, MICHIGAN!!!

so this roadie should do me fine

now to convince the parents.

Hows it compare to the Brougham?

Isn't it a little late for a test drive?

pimpin88

i did the test drive in the middle of the day. it is much faster than my brougham. but im pretty sure it has different rear gears than my brougham also.

when i stopped at a stop sign i got on it and both tires started smoking the the back end was hanging out when i was going through the intersection

Yeah, I'd imagine the 350 L05 is a lot more powerful than the 307, but how's the ride and handling compare? How about the seats? Which is more comfortable?

not sure on the comfort thing seeing that my brougham has been in the garage since august. but it should be out soon. as soon as the snow stops. so i'll get back to you on that one.

Ok I get it now, I didnt realize this was a beater type car... Go for it, sounds like a reliable car if nothing else. I skipped right past the fact you had a brougham already.

hah, found out something is leaking brake fluid somewhere because there was a small puddle on our driveway yesterday morning. which was the day after i test drove it. so i called the guy and told him he probably shouldnt let anyone else drive the car considering it will probably not have any brakes.

hopefully this will make any other potential buyers shy away from it because they cant drive it.

my parents went out of town for a few days and i cant get the money out until they come back. stupid banking rules. i wish i was 18. lol.

So you're getting it?

pimpin88
02-22-06, 01:37 PM
as long as my parents make a final agreement on it. they wont commit yet. but i think they will give in.

my dad is for it. my mom is the one who needs convincing

Just like when I bought my Roadie. My dad was more for it, he wanted something with the 3800, but he would go with it, and my mom hates big cars in general.

haha. how were you able to convince your mom. so far ive tried stuff like how its a big very safe car that gets decent gas mileage for its size and will keep me safe in Flint, Michigan vs. my geo spectrum that i have now. lol. and my neighbor even offered to buy the spectrum back for the same price i bought it and ive put 7,xxx miles on it. so to me it sounds like a good deal. but idk.

i NEED to convince my mom soon!!!!
