: Removal of the CTS from rear....how?

I saw an earlier thread from someone who removed the CTS from the rear of the V. I fine that and excellent idea that fits nicely with the stealthy nature of the V.

Anyway, I can't seem to find the original thread to reference, but does anyone know the best way to remove the lettering? I'd like to remove the dealer's logo too.

I'm assuming it's just an adhesive but are there any issues removing it from the paint?

Thanks

i used a blow dryer to loosen the glue and then used a piece of fishing line like dental floss. just go back and forth with the line from one side to the other and it will come right off as long as the glue is loose enough....then just clean the trunk lid.....i threw on a pretty cool LS6 emblem to replace it,,,,,,looks pretty clean

I would suggest using real "cloth" type dental floss. Less likely to scratch your paint that fishing line. Then use bug & tar remover to get of the residue...then reapply your favorite paint protectant (nice generic term to avoid another wax/zaino/zymol/rejex/etc. debate)

Hey, as long as we're talking about this, I wanted to this, too, but I want to put an "LS6" emblem in place of the CTS emblem. Trouble is, can't find one. Anyone know where you can get one? Thanks.

The authentic, orginal "LS6" emblem comes off the strut tower brace, which is what I used. There is one supporting vendor who sells an LS6 badge that looks like the Z06 badge of the prior-generation Z06 'Vette. Take your choice...
BTW - if you use the original strut-tower LS6 emblem, be sure you note the orientation of the S. It can be mounted upside down if you don't watch it.

Great idea - the whole fishing line/floss approach - thanks for the insight.

I had mine off, or the dealership did when they did some repainting. When we were doing a walk around inspection I noticed there was no CTS badge or dealership name badge put back on the car. However I had them put back on the CTS badge, IMO that helps it with it "sleeper" persona and people thinking (who don't know any better) that it's a Cadi CTS. But when the guy said "I'll go get the dealeship badge and stick it on too" I told him nevermind :)

Yeah you have a point regarding the stealth appearance. I guess it's more of the "What is that?" stealthy quality I was going for. I guess like an being an unknown versus a sleeper approach.

took mine off last weekend. I would love to stick an LS6 embelm on but I like the looks with the CTS removed much much better. Whatever you do, try not to scratch the trunk removing it.

Was it difficult?

How do I remove the CTS emblem? Short answer.........bump drafting. Sorry I just watched the Daytona 500. I might not be in the proper frame of mind to dole out advice.

You mean that's how you used to do it don't you? Now you'd be 1-2 car lengths back.....(Sorry - it was there).

12.94 @ 108mph. There's not much that I can't get in front of. 13.50 was my best time in the V.

Not half bad - that's a run you did?

Either way - talking a road racer anyway. How's the Chrysler doing for you there?

Zip

When you use the floss, make sure it is between the emblem and the glue, not between the glue and the paint. The latter will leave lots of marks on your paint finish.

Thanks for the finer point upgrade - not sure chosing to be between one or the other is possible but favoring the emblem side makes sense.

... the stealth appearance ... "What [was] that?" ...I wouldn't mind the LS6 emblem on the back, because by the time they see it, they're gonna know something's up anyway.

I considered going for the "confusion factor" to see if the collision center would stick an XLR badge on the back, but that was no sale ;)

Oo-o, a bit pricey, but I think I'd like to do it. Thanks, Chris. :worship:

Ready when you are Doug. I'd love to run a V with my SRT-8. If I lose, I lose. But I seriously doubt it stock vs. stock. This thing is idiot proof. Somethings a bad thing, sometimes a good thing.

mY emblem fell apart between the letters taking it off.
$59 is steep, guess I'll go without.

Its a quality emblem, a lot of us have it. It is a $50K car. Whats $59 bucks. Probably the cheapest mod you will buy.
Looks like it belongs there.

You caught me. I'd be afraid that I would blow up my differential, the have to pay $3000 to have it towed to Lindsay (otherwise be at the mercy of whoever kept jamming you up).

Maybe we should plan on racing (legally, of course) while I am taking your old V for a test drive from Checkered Flag (or Hall, or whatever they are called down there....)

Having second thoughts. River's looks pretty good.

Just an update in case anyone is considering removing the CTS - I did it today along with removing my dealer's logo - was quite easy and the dental floss worked great. It looks better IMO - cooler, if you will.

Also, FYI WD-40 works great to remove any residual adhesive....it's good for nasty bugs and such too.
