Sandy / A while back I posted in the "Cadillac Versus..." forum about a terrific article in the April '06 issue of Collectible Automobile concerning the '69-'73 Imperials, but I don't think you saw it. I hope you finally found the issue, and I'd be curious to get your reaction to it.

I've tried to obtain it, but cannot find it, anywhere! I gave up.

I think it's still available out here. If you want, I can pick up another copy and mail it to you..........???

I just saw it today at my local Borders, but didn't have time to read it. Will try to later in the week. It's a nice magazine with lots of great period manufacturer photos as well as current photos with nicely restored examples or original survivors.

I really liked Chrysler's fusalage styling from that era; even though those cars were huge, they looked very sleek.

The 1970 Imperial was ugly. They tried to alter it from 1969, just for the sake of changing it. They removed the fender skirts, making it look too hevy and bulky and it immediately lost any sleekness to it. Then the changed the grille mesh and that became less attrative. Finally it was 1971 and they really got their stuff together, with a nice grille, fender skirts were back on and they sleeked it out. 1971 was MY personal favorite year, then 72 followed by 74-78. You didn't "sell" an Imp. There was no selling ! The Imp buyer in 90% of the cases had one prior. Imp buyers seldom cross shopped Caddy or Lincoln. They couldn't be less interested! Frequently you could move a New Yorker buyer up into an Imp, providing the New Yorker wasn't an almost outta reach for them.......item. The little store I was at (my father's 1/2 Uncle's) sold MORE Imperials than any other store in our county, even more than the big mega monester out on the highway! WE WERE the Imperial king !! Always with 2 or 3 new, in stock.
