Edith has a problem. She acts like she has an allergy, but she doesn't. Constant licking to the point that it's pulling the fur out in certain places. The vet (allergy specialist) can't find anything wrong. She's even on a special diet.
Edith also has a urination problem. We call it "stinking outside the box." She marks territory and I have to work on a spot for several days before it quits smelling like ammonia. (embarrassing if you have visitors) She's been confined to one room for the past three months.
The vet (almost 40 years experience) looks up the two problems, consults with some colleagues around the country, and discovers--lo and behold--that the treatment for BOTH conditions is the same.
Diazepam (Valium). I have a really cool pharmacist friend who has been to apothecary school and knows how to mix up all sorts of different concoctions that your average pharmacist doesn't mess with. So he's mixed up a little bottle of some kind of syrup, and I'm supposed to give this cat 0.2ml twice per day.
Kinda takes the edge off.
If it doesn't work on the cat, I'll be sipping it myself.
