A board member of XM radio resigned today sighting critical differences with the direction of the company and it's unwilling to control costs. No need to read between the lines here, XM will be going bankrupt if it doesn't curb expenses. The stock dropped $1.41 per share, nearly 6% of its value. The company does not expect to show a profit until Q4 of '06 provided their paying subscriber rolls grow by 50%. Pretty lofty goal.

Are you Sirrius?

Sirriusly though. I don't think Sirius was profitable 'till just a little bit ago when Stern signed up. The market potential is too great for XM to disappear and bankruptcy doesn't mean they'll go away. GM may file soon too... think about that for awhile.

I already did think about it, I solved both problems with a simple trade.

The only way I see this working is to merge the 2 companies and increase the monthly rate betwen $2-5 per month. That still would be good for me.

Here out in nowhere, you gotta have satellite radio, unless you enjoy sex with farm animals and country music.Several of my friends dropped the xm for sirius.I like the programing better on sirius, although I have xm in the house, car, truck. My car having xm is the only reason I haven't switched. If xm goes tits up somebody else will takeover without interruption.Listen to xm while it's here and buy sirius stock.I do believe sirius will be the first to bring movies and music to NEW cars.JMO.Stern Sucks

But honestly you've now bought into a company that several years ago (1979) had to petition the congress for a billion dollars to avoid bankruptcy itself. To be "fair" shouldn't the American taxpayer also now infuse GM with several billion dollars to keep it solvent in an effort to become profitable again ? (not that they would) :)

I like Delphi's offerings. Beyond that, theyre the same thing to me. I'd try Sirius if I could get something as nice as a Skyfi for it. So far, I dislike all the Sirius hardware.

I was concerned about that article in the paper today, XM threw alot of money ar Oprah, IT was a counter move to Sirus signing Martha Stewart.
XM's bottom line has been better than Sirus since both companys have started operations, XM is years ahead of Sirus in product development, XM's stock is in the low 20's last I checked, Where Sirus has yet to break $10.
Xm's music channels have become so much better that last 5 months, which is good cause they were god awfull.
I orginally bough XM for OPIE & ANTHONY, I rarely listened to the music, only because there are so many more optionsw than music, I love that they have all the cable news channels,E,Vh1 & MTV Radio, TO NAME A FEW. The XM traffic nav hooks directly into your GPS another thing Sirus does not have, even with out XM nav the traffic reports are the most comprehensive and accurate I have ever used.
Now if you are a sportsd fan than you have to prefer Xm over Sirus, Baseball & Hockey my two favorite sports.
Now as for the two mergeing, that is unlikely to happen as there would be a monoply issue to deal with, a 3rd company would likely have to throw there hat into the ring.
Hope this helps.

Opie & Anthony XM 202...........SPREAD THE VIRUS!

Isn't nascar headed to sirius too?Whats the better bottom line?I don't use the traffic. What does price per share have to do with anything?

I dont know Bout NASCAR, as far as the importance of price per share, it is very important, A few months ago Stanley downgraded Sirus Credit rating, and deemed the stock over vauled, that equals earnings to spending ratios, now im not saying Sirus is gonna close shop, its not its just not as strong of a compnay as XM is.

Now the article that was written today COULS mean the same thing could happen to XM being downgraded as well, this would most likely not take place until after 4th quater earnings are posted for this year. Since XM is counting on 9 millon subs though x-mas of '06. If they fall far short of this number and earnings dont increase then what I described above could happen. One way XM could still hit there '06 projections and not have 9 millon subs is if existing users add more radios to there account, which would mean more revenue & still be able to stay somewhat commerical free. There are some live spots that are read on O & A's show but they are damm short.
That should answer your question.

XM and Sirius are fledgling companies in a fledgling industry. But they are the only players and there are gazillions of $$ to be made; the problem is that the startup costs are huge, both from a technology perspective and from a marketing perspective.

I doubt that they are going away anytime soon, but even if they do go belly up somebody will come in and buy the assets and keep subscribers listening and therefore keep the subscribers subscribed.

GM and Ford may be downsizing and otherwise going through tough times, but they aren't going anywhere. Not gonna happen. Even if there is a bankruptcy, they will still be in business and selling cars and the parts to fix them and honoring warranties. Same with Daimler Chrysler; Dieter will get those arrogant Daimler guys straightened out and making cars as good as the SRT's sooner or later:stirpot:

I beleive that NASCAR moves to SIRIUS next year. XM may still try and keep some kind of coverage; they signed Dale Earnhardt jr. and some other driver to host some race show.

I just bought a new XM tuner a half hour ago. I usually dislike Audiovox, but this Audiovox xPress with a 5-line tuner and an unlimited frequency FM transmitter is really slick. I retired the Sony.

I have the Delphi Roady for XM....

I have always like Sirius better, but they never had the hardware I liked....

well, their new Sportster is EXACTLY the perfect receiver for me... much better then the Roady.... I have a thing for deep blue and silver... I love it, and they design and setup is perfect.....

I just can't justify spending like $100 for it when I have the working XM... I dunno... I was getting fed up with XM, but don't mind it since I fixed the broken solder joint on the output jack... still the programming pretty much sucks. My XM hasn't worked for a week now.. the Roady stopped getting power, probably my little power block thingy pull out a wire... well, tomorrow I gotta mess around with the sound system a bit, so I'll fix it. I'd still like to get that Sportster tho....

I prefer XM. More classical music. More news. More business.
Sirius is best for sport guys though from my observations.

And XM is closer to profitability than Sirius (Though not by much).

I also prefer XM, Sirius is too liberal. XM has better choices in music, news, and traffic (which helps me greatly). Stern isn't for me, he's vulgar and I don't care to listen to his garbage.

I dunno. I moved so damn many XM units when I worked at Circuit City I don't think they could go bankrupt if they tried...

I use Sirius (and I dislike Stern) I liek the Sporster as well. I got one of those "no holes" mounts so it is bolted to the radio. It's right at my finger tips. My only gripe is I'd like to change the display color to green to match the digital stuff in the car but that is petty.
