I was in Cad showroom today looking at 2006 DTS

When I inquired about Stablitrack suspension , salesman said Yes it is included.

I said please point it out on window sticker.. It was not included at $44,600

Then he pointed out that this DTS was a Luxuxry 1 not a Luxury 11 which includes stabilitrac as part of a $4300 Pkg.

I am confused Never heard of Lux 1 or Lux 11. Unsuspecting buyer beware.

The US Congress has decreed that stabilitract type suspension be on every auto sold in USA by year 2008. Now it is safety BEFORE the crash not after as in Seatbelts, Disk Brakes, ABS, etc.

My though was that stablitrac was standard on Cad since year 2000. Mercedes was first in 1995.

Can anyone shed some light on this subject?

First of all, there's 3 different "trim levels" on the DTS: Luxury I, Luxury II, then Performance. Each has its own assortment of equipment and extra features.

As for the Stabilitrak option, it isn't standard on the "base" Luxury I model, but is standard on both the Luxury II and Performance models. It is strange that this would be so, but I'm assuming it's because they wanted to get the price of the models without options as low as possible, or that the typical buyer of that model would 1) never notice it missing, 2) never drive the car at limits where Stabilitrak might be necessary. Couldn't tell you specifically.

It should be standard though, but it isn't the only car equipped without it...a LOT still don't have an ESP system standard across the board. Of course, this is a Cadillac and should, but who knows.

If I were you I would pick up Luxury Package II but it's interesting why StabiliTrak is in the option list

There are 4 trim levels of the DTS, and my dealer simplified it in this manner (using the 2000-2005 car as reference):

Luxury I=rental/fleet car

Luxury II=DeVille

Luxury III=DHS

Performance=DTS

The Luxury I does have an all speed traction control. I'd assume its just like the non-stabiltrak Devilles.

The Luxury II is very similar to my 05 Deville with optional comfort and convenience package and premium package.

Could some explain the difference between all speed traction control and
stabiltrak for me? My 2005 STS's window sticked indicates that it has both.

i have a Lux III .... which i read about at cadillac.com

stabiltrak keeps you moving strait and measures your tail slipping out and stuff like that, all about keeping the car stable and in a striat line. It will adjust wheel speed in order to keep the vehicle going in the direction the driver is sending it, if you turn left and the car wants to keep going striat, it will compensate and make the car turn left.

The traction control does simply traction, when the wheels slip, it tries to make them grip and will adjust throttle like that of the stabiltrak but doesn't have any input on what direction you want to go, its all about grip.

At least thats how I understand it.

Also there is indeed four levels of "trim" Luxury I/II/III and Performance as seen on the cadillac website.
