To quote myself from another thread:

I'll spare you the extensive search on cold air intakes. That topic has been beaten to death on the forums. Basically you'll find that people have tried every intake under the sun (I myself tried the K&N) and the one thing they ALL have in common is they drastically increase intake noise. Any HP gain or mpg improvement was negated by the overwhelming noise of the K&N. Some people report the Volant is quieter at slower speeds but become very noisy at WOT.....this is exactly how the K&N behaved though.

The bottom line on intakes is they will ALL increase cabin noise, which most people find undesirable. If the extra noise is worth some [SMALL] gain in performance to you, then by all means. If you're trying to minimize noise and maximize HP gain then just put a drop in K&N in the factory intake box. Hope that helps.

I think you only get your $$$ worth from cold air induction, in terms of hp gain, by also adding an exhaust and re-programming the computer. For me, there was no real hp gain from the intake alone, and it was way too loud to tolerate. I recomend replacing the filter with an aftermarket oiled cotton filter and stop there. If however, you intend to do multiple mods to get hp gains the cold air kit is a good starting point.

Rolex - thank you for the multiple links. I'm surprised so many people had noise concerns. My previous SUV had an aftermarket CAI, but I didn't have any noise problems with it, but then again...my previous SUV didn't have 345 HP. Thanks again...

Vararam or Volant are two good choices. :)

Anyone have this intake kit installed and notice a difference? Or did you have to do a couple other mods as well to make it noticeable?

This is one that I have been looking for my EXT but not sure yet. I like the way the air filter sits out of the way of the engines heat.

I just had the K&N cold air intake installed in my '03, along with a Corsa sport exhaust. The Corsa exhaust is so loud I honestly can't even hear anything from the K&N filter, maybe when I have the pedal punched on the freeway to pass but the rest of the time all I can hear is the exhaust in the back, so it doesn't bother me. I actually like how loud the damn thing is lol. The best part is when I remote start it on the way to the car with someone who hasn't seen it before, the exhaust note and sudden starting of the car usually scares the crap out of them, like it's from that Stephen King movie Maxium Overdrive lol.
