Does anybody notice, with the stock shifter, going from 1st to 3rd it locks up?

Is it normal? I never felt anything like it.

The only thing I can toss up, if you are in that 15 to 19 range and the 1->4 solenoid is blocking your gates. Thats the only time I notice something like you describe. Otherwise when I'm in slow town traffic that's my prefered use of the oars.

define "locks it up."

I don't know that I have gone from 1-3. I often go 4-6 or occassionally 3-6 if I've gotten my jollies getting up to cruising speed on the highway and don't feel the need to go through the 4-5-6 motions.....never any issues though (my CAGS is bypassed with the STEALTHV unit).

i experienced the same thing...its wierd...just get a cags-removal unit and dont worry about it.

I havent ever been "locked out" but i definately have noticed and addressed the dealer of not being able to get into third from 1st on occassion--you need to put the stick back in neutral position then go... Of course the dealer said everything was fine

It sounds like the normal operation of the built-in skip-shift to me. Get the CAGS eliminator like everyone is saying and you'll be fine. Also, junk that crappy shifter and get a UUC installed. It has been said by many to be the absolute best mod ever and I have to agree. Shifts are sooooo much more exact and give you a very satisfying 'click'.

It will let me go into second just fine, but if I try to put it in third it's almost as if there is some sord of bump stop or something. I do like second, but through school zones and rush hour I like 3rd. Maybe it is just the stock shifter???

I have driven several V's...and I noticed some inconsistency in the shifter feel from car-to-car. None are really "good," of course, but some are sloppier than others.

if i am lazy, i'll shift 1-2-4. 1-4 gives too much of a hard shift so i'll use 2nd gear to smooth out the shifts

Also, I don't have CAGS eliminator, but haven't had any problem as I've just learned to hold 1st a little longer.
