: Radar detector install Question (not V1)

Hi - I am trying to install a Passport SRX (concealed remote radar/laser detector) in my 05 V and need a little help. I want to mount the main unit under the dash or in the glove compartment and want to know if there is an accessable switchable power source in the area that will shut on/off with ignition.

I have read the detailed threads on the V1 install...but using the dome light wire as a source is a little out of the way if I am targeting under the dash.

Also, are there any specific places to which are best to run wires from interior to under the front grill.

Sorry for the basic questions, I'm pretty good mechanically, but wiring makes me pretty nervous.

BTW - I agree that the V1 is the industry standard and I love mine, but it simply to big/cumbersome for daily use. The SRX (although costly $1000+) is fantastic...it has front radar and front and rear laser detectors (with "shifting" which works great.

Thanks for any input. Nigel.

Holy crap dude, that's one expensive detector, of course then I saw the 1500.00 version

edit - Oh wait I see what the problem is, you bought the Passport SRX, you probably needed the Passport CTS-V ;)

Why not add the relay to the fuse box that enables the cigarette lighter to be switched via the ignition switch? Then you could use a wire tap to connect the radar detector to the cigarette lighter.

then this:

You can pretty much put the power from there ANYwhere in the dash area from the center stack.
