I am planning on selling my 2000 Catera Sport, but I am not sure how much I should put it in the paper for and how much should I expect to get for it. The body has 62k miles on it, and only 30k on the engine. The is in PERFECT shape on the inside. No stains, no rips in the leather. The outside is even better, no scratches or dings of any type. One thing is the problem, the car does have a Salvage title. What happened, the previouse owner drove the car into a ditch that was full of water and the car gotten water through the intake. I bought the car, had the engine professionally replaced, and that was it, nothing else had to be done to the car. I mean, people replace engines in their cars and you would even know about it when you buy it from them. So I dont think that it should be that big of a deal that it has a salvage title, because only the engine was replaced and I have all the reciepts for it. So what do you guys think I should put it in the paper for, and how much should expect to get for it. And any selling tips would be great.
Thanks.

Hi,
I am in the car business as a car purchasing agent.

Hardly any dealer wants to buy a car with a salvage title. The rule of thumb is 50 % of KBB (kelly blue book) wholesale.

KBB for a 2000 Sport with sunroof, Bose and rear spoiler is $ 7425.--.
A dealer would most likely give you $3.700.--.

I would advertise it in the paper for 4.999.-- as a salvage titled car.

Good luck with your sale.

Your car is a very beautiful car, and you stole it from me!!! Nice to hear you got that engine put in.

4,999 seems like a decent price. Having a salvage title is like holding a burning bible. If I were you, I'd try selling it to someone you know, that way they realize what went on with it.

I don't know if it is just me, or something, but that price does seem to be very very low..... so what if the car has a salvage title. The title is orange but the car is still the fine car that it used to be. Changing the motor is not that big of a deal, and plus the motor does have half as much miles on it. I seen Cateras in Auto Trader with the same year and same mile that are listed for $9,900 and some even over $10,000. I have a friend who fixes cars for living and then sells them..... all salvage, and he says maybe $1,000 to $1,500 of the price and thats it. So I think I am going to take that route. Because I have spent a lot more then $4,999 on the car.

Hi,

the following chart will give you an idea what Cateras sold for at dealers
only auctions. I know, it's kind of depressing.
I paid for my 2000 Sport with 33.000 miles, silver with black leather, Bose
and Xenon lights last year in Juli 6.500.--. The car is flawless from the
original owner.
To advertise a Catera for 9.000 or higher is just wishful thinking.:)
