FYI:

http://www.cadillacfaq.com/vin/

A great way to lookup a vin number and have it decoded (NOT a service history, just decoded like you can manually do here: http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/pdf/2005vincards.pdf)...

It will work on any GM vehicle (I think)...

1981 or newer, it requires a 17 digit VIN

edit - Just tried it on a '93 Fleetwood and a '95 Silverado it did not work.

Just tried it on my 02 Escalade and it didn't display all the info.

Is there any fiurther info we can derive from the sequnce number? Mine is 156573. Out of the 5000+ built for 04, it would be nice to know if it was a beginning-, middle- or end-of-run unit.

I have been trying to get information on this from GM for a while... the best I can figure is NO... The CTS-V was built inline with the CTS/SRX, etc and therefore the sequence number has nothing to do with the number of CTS-Vs produced..

If someone has more info, bring it forward...

Yours is about a 1/3 of the way through the run of 2004s using the VIN data I've accumulated programming PCMs.

How about is there a way to find out the actual date of manufacture of our cars, then build our own database, or add that field to your existing database Reed, and we can come to a determination of where in sequence our cars are from any given production year ?

Any GM dealer can tell the build date of a vehicle from the VIN; ours was built June 10, 2005.

Thanks, mate. Sounds about right. Scanning my checkbook register and vague recollections of conversations with the dealer, I plunked down a deposit December 8 of 03 for the first one delivered and took delivery in February 23 of 04.
