Hi,

A quick introduction.

I have just become the proud owner of a beautiful Thunder Gray DeVille. It has about 10k miles and is almost perfect!

We recently transferred here to Atlanta from New Zealand, so naturally one of the main concerns was what to drive! I didn't want to get a Japanese or European car because we are used to those in NZ. I wanted to get an American car. And what could be more American than a Cadillac!

It has taken a bit longer than I hoped to get organised, mainly because there is a serial chain of things that a new immigrant has to do and each step takes time (the only thing I'm still working on is a credit card - and I have hopes for this week).

In the meantime I have been driving rental cars (a Pacifica, a Jeep Cheerokee, and a 300C).

So last Wednesday I finally took delivery of the car, I had picked it out before Christmas, but it took this long to organize a mutually acceptable form of payment (don't ask).

Immediately after getting it, I noticed that the driver's seat heating was not working. The dealer has looked at it and has the part on order. But this is a very minor blemish and I am sure it will be resolved soon.

Today we took the car on its first drive out of town. We went on a 100 mile jaunt to Helen, a sort of alpine village in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. It was a great drive, the car is superb on the road with excellent ride and a very comfortable and quiet place to be.

The fuel economy is amazing (to me, at least). We got 29.2 mpg coming home which is outstanding for a big V8 sedan. The running on 4 cylinders really must work. Most of the way I was using cruise control set to either 60 or 70. This is way better than any of the other cars I have driven here (Pacifica around 17, Jeep around 16, 300C around 18).

Compared with the 300C, the Cadillac feels more solid and a lot more comfortable. The power is also a lot better, mainly because the rental 300 was the 6 cylinder, I am sure the hemi would be more competitive. The ride on the 300 was a lot choppier and every bump is transmitted to the cabin. The handling on the 300 is probably a bit better when pushed, but the Cadillac manages pretty well for its size and as long as you don't mind the body roll it seems to track ok.

I will try to post some pictures when the weather improves and I have some time.

Regards John

Hey John, welcome to the forum and the US, a Kiwi here, eh???
Only one note to your posting - you mentioned the "running on 4 cylinders" thing. Not really.
You have the Northstar's "Limp Home" mode confused with the old GM "4-6-8" debacle of the mid 80s.
The Northstar runs on all eight cylinders ALL the time, except when a catastrophic loss of coolant occurs (hoses blow, etc).
In this case, the engine goes into "Camel" mode, and shuts off four cylinders, pumping air through them until they cool, and then cycles to the other four and so on. It is a way to get to a service area or home without resorting to a tow. It is a Last Ditch Emergency thing, if it ever happens, you'll know about it.
Other than that, enjoy the car! How about some pictures????

Hello...
Welcome to Atlanta!
Through which dealer did you take delivery of your car?
I have had excellent experiences with both Hennessy and Heritage.
I don't know much about Classic or Capital.
Good Luck with the car.
Keep browsing through these forums...
It's a great place.

Thanks for your welcomes.

I used Hennessy Cadillac and they seemed fine to me. Their website is certainly very useful when you're on the other side of the world.

I am loving the country, the state and the city (and the car). Although I have often been here on business, it is different when you live here.

Hello...
Yes, Atlanta is a great city...although it can seem "small town" at times...
You'll know what I mean after you've been here for a while.
I've been happy here for nearly 20 years...or nearly happy for 20 years!

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the car...or Atlanta.
I'll be more than happy to help out.

Hennessy is a great dealership, although I haven't been out in Gwinnett very much.
I'm in Decatur.

Once again, welcome aboard!

PS...It's a great car, isn't it!
