this was my first car. It was my grandfathers, he bought it new in 81. he died in 89 and my grandmother gave it to me in 96 but the title was never signed over (oh, yeah necessary info, my grandmother had been showing signs of dimmensia/alsheimers since 91,) so 4 months after it was given to me her mind slipped, and she demanded it back, and having another car I gave it back, this happened at least 4 other times in the next 9 years, last year the state put her in a nursing home and due to some extenuating (and kinda suspicious) circumstances my dad was denied guardianship and it went to a court appointed lawyer (incedentaly this was the same lawyer who was appointed to investigate my dad for guardianship.....conflict of interest anyone?.....and now collects high fees from her estate) so I ended up having to buy my own car from her estate.

those are not as wide as the origionals somewhere I have a pic from 82 with the wide ones I'll see if I can scan them

no it is a v864, wich I hope to reenable soon if I can figure out how it was disabled (3rd gear switch is still plugged in)

Check the ECM PROM id number. They did have PROMS that disabled the 8/6/4.

Only one thing to say about a clean old Cadillac in GM 077 Blue: Cream Puff. Nice car. Sorry about all the lawyer crap. You are not alone.....

if it were a different PROM would I still be able to use the diagnostic mode to manually test the solenoids? (I did and they work)

Wow... that is in great shape, and I like the color too :)

Thats good you finally got it back :)

About the V8-6-4, like you said, most people cut the wire going from the trans to tell the computer it was in 3rd gear... I would go form star tto finish on that wire and see if it was cut somehwere...

what I would REALLY do is wire the 4 selonoids up to an on/off rocker switch in the dash somewhere so YOU control when its in V8 or V4 mode (no V6)... it would get rid of a whole lotta headaches later down the road, yet still retain the modular displacement system which I think is sweet! :)

thanks it is good to have her back

I have aleady traced the 3rd gear wire as best I can and as far as I can tell it's intact
I have been to the dealership that did the work on the MD system but the mechanic that did the disable work retired 2 years ago, the current senior mechanic is trying to get ahold of the retired mechanic so I should hopefully be able to find out how it was done
