My Deville wont go into overdrive. It now also feels like the other gears are not shifting properly either. 3 questions:

1.) Can it be the solenoids?
2.) (Especially if the answer to 1 is yes) I keep reading how there are many threads on how to replace the solenoids, but I cant find any of them listing the instructions. Can someone please post either a link to a post or repost the intructions here? I'm thinking I'll try this first before I even think about a complete rebuild. It seems that there was some sort of improvement made to the 96 and newer Northstar trannys to make it easier to replace the solenoids.
3.) Any other thoughts on what it could be if not the solenoids, aside from a new tranny?

Thanks,

Anthony

Anthony, check to see if the car has any codes, if its a transmission problem, a code will be set. Once you do that, then the problem can be narrowed down. It will show as current or History.

Sorry to be the one that sends you the bad news:

I just had to rebuild my trans for the same reason. It is your clutch. I couldn't get into overdrive and it wasn't in first gear at all. get back to me for more information.

It could be solenoids. Here's a link. When they first fail they may not post a code as they are "sticking" not broken and the trans doesn't sense that.

when it was my clutch that was bad, there was no codes just to let you know.
