My '94 Deville began illumninating the brake warning light a few months ago. The fluid was low in master cylinder so I changed the front pads which were worn, checked the master cyl. again, added fluid to the proper level and all systems were go. About a week later the warning light came back on but sometimes if I stomp down on the emergency brake and release it, the light goes out. I suspect a faulty switch at the emergency pedal which I can't seem to find it. Has anyone else had this problem? BTW I have been lurking around this site for awhile and collectively you guys certainly know caddies. Thanks,

Art,
First look in your owners manual. As I recall there is one definition for the brake light and another for a flashing brake light. From what you have said, it sounds alot like the parking brake indicator. It may not be the switch. Maybe the prake pedal is not staying tight in the released position. That is to say, it is dropping a bit and that is enough to set the light. I'd try getting some oil on the pedal spring and the fulcrum to be sure it is operating smoothly and releasing with enough force to park in and keep it in the released position.

Thanks Ranger, but that did not solve the problem. I think whatever the problem is, may have gotten worse. The dash brake light is on all the time now. I suppose I need to find a '94 Deville factory service manual, since the Chilton's that I have is very basic and shows no detailed schematic of the chasis electrics.

Do You Get Any Codes Out Of It?
If the parking brake is releasing properly and you cannot put the light out by putting your toe under the parking brake pedal and lifting, then I would check the switch on the parking brake. It may simply be bad. Unplug it and see if it goes out.

Thanks to you both for your input. No brake codes are being displayed via the OBD. And Ranger I looked up under the dash for the parking break switch or at least a wire supplying it, and found nothing... Any advice?
I has to be there. Probably tucked away pretty good, but somewhere on the parking brake assembly, there is a switch for the indicator.
