I'm gonna go have a beer. :highfive: When I bought my CTS I hadn't had a ticket in about 4 years. Then I got two tickets in my first 3 months of CTS ownership. Been ticket-free since though despite my ever-more-adventurous driving habits. So what were those two tickets you ask? 70 in a 55 - $125 (vacant 4 lane highway in the boonies at night, cop must have been really bored) 45 in a 35 - $150 ("technically" it was a "school zone" during "school hours" but there were no kids present so he gave me a break. Otherwise he would have had to write me up for "reckless driving" which really would've s***ed.) And if your curious about that other "ticket" from 4 years earlier... "speed contest" - $250 in fines, 40 hrs community service, $800 in lawyer fees :rant2: Caddy Man 01-20-06, 02:10 AM funny, I just finished reading the book ''A Speeder's Guide to Avoiding Tickets'' Caddy Man 01-20-06, 02:12 AM Thought i'd share with you the trouble my Cadillac gets me into $250, 60 in a 35 Feel free to share. I was clocked doing 49 in a 30 one year ago, but my passengers said I was going over 60 before I jammed on the brakes when I saw the cop beaming cars. So we concluded the cop got me mid braking. Spent Father's day at traffic school and paid around $100. The officer tried adding on these other bogus charges but had absolutely no idea what the laws were so that didn't last very long. Funny thing was that I was waiting to buy a radar detector when I got the ticket. But since I've gotten it, it's saved me at least three definite times...the CTS gets me in alot of trouble. Doesn't help that I live in a posh area where the cops have nothing better to do than to get out of town speeders who don't have detectors. Cadiman1983 01-20-06, 08:30 AM My biggest one: 79 in a 45 - Two page report on driving safety plus $60 in court fees. My mines didn't speak to me for like a week because I got off so easily... Here any moving violation results in points. At about 12 points your liscnce gets suspended. After 2 years from date of convivtion for a violation, the points come off your record. TripleOught 01-20-06, 01:26 PM don't forget that when you reniew your license, each point is a certain amount of money extra. a guy i knew had like 4 points and i think it was going to cost him 120-ish bucks more than normal reniewal. thats just getting owned. period. 22Cadillac22 01-20-06, 01:57 PM 130 in a 60 elevation 01-20-06, 01:59 PM Up here in Canada we get quite a few speed traps but they don't make us go to traffic school and our insurance rates do not go up because we get a couple of speeding tickets. I have yet to get an excessive speeding ticket but never say never... My biggest worry is my sportbike. It is just too easy. What kind of sport bike do you have TripleOught? TorontoWorker 01-20-06, 01:59 PM Not in a CTS but... 203KM (sort of) in a 100KM zone. Had to walk for a month, over $500 bucks (1982 money!) and take a road test again. The officer figured I was going over 230KM ( I was faster) when I passed him sitting behind an underpass. He couldn't even get a good lock on me and had 203 for a second or two but it wouldn't lock in. We agreed at 160KM (for the crown) for an out of court, instead of him sitting there telling the court about how few seconds it took for me to disapear from sight and what his *expert* opinion of the speed I was going. I beat the radar waves - but not the radio waves. I had already slowed back down miles later but - too late, another unit was waiting for me. Memories of Mustangs... :) (And then there was the Memories of IROC Z's too!) Live and learn mode. Now I take it to the track if I feel the need for speed. AsAkAs 01-20-06, 02:29 PM I just drove down the same road as I did last night... the "posted" signs say 35mph... then 250ft down the road it says 40mph and then about 1/4 mile down the road it says 25, and another 500ft it says 35mph again... I'm most certainly fighting this one, I was in a 40mph zone, he estimated, and I wasn't doing 60, regardless. sid_v 01-20-06, 02:31 PM Up here in Canada we get quite a few speed traps but they don't make us go to traffic school and our insurance rates do not go up because we get a couple of speeding tickets. Maybe BC is different... I know a couple of guys here in Ontario who went the "driver's ed" route. Once in my 1994 Concours doing 74 in a 55. The NY State Trooper told me to keep it under 70! Then last Summer I got pulled over on a state highway in NY by a small town cop! I passed the town cop on the highway doing about 57 in a 55 and he pulls me over! He said he paced me at 70! Whatever! He only gave me a warning after having me sit there for at least 30 minutes while he ran all his checks on me.....cause I'm such a criminal! :) Maybe it's something with NY! It always sounded so phony. Unless you happen to be in the military, the term "sir" is no longer commonly used and sounds so out of place. I know you mean well by limit your "sir" to one time, if you must use it at all." I always used to make that mistake^^^ MikeB066 01-24-06, 04:01 AM These are some might entertaining tales. Beat this: When I was 17 I got pulled over for doing P on a 55mph stretch of highway. I was driving a '79 Chevrolet Caprice 350ci V-8 and the speedometer only went to 85mph, the needle was inbetween the M and H in MPH. I was following a friend out of town and he had a radar detector so we considered ourselves invulnerable... until a cop came off another freeway into the left lane behind me. When I saw the lights, I was certain he was going for the car running point. No such luck. Every lane I moved to get out of the way so he could bust my friend he followed. Next thing I know I am on the side of the freeway wondering how I am going to explain this. The requisite exchange ensued, but when he asked if I knew how fast I was going I decided to be straight up and honest. "Well, officer, I was going P," which of course required lengthy explanation. I elaborated, explaining how I raced my friend's 280Z which had a speedo that went to 130 and that P pretty much equalled 110 or thereabouts. "Where are you going at that speed at this time of night?" he asked. It happened to be about 2-3AM and on an urge my friends and I decided to head to the beach to ride the ferry and see the stars, which I tried to convey. "Don't you know that there are speed traps, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here on the way down there?" the officer asked. Until then, I was oblivious to the exact locations of those dangers, hence the pointman with the radar detector. We did file that information away for future use, as needed. "Uhm, no, I had no idea about that officer," I replied, then turned to my copilot and muttered, "Did you get all that?" for which I received a thumbs up. The police officer ran my plates, license, and insurance, then came back to the car. At which point I was pretty much ready to be pulled from the car for reckless endangerment and a short trip to jail. Instead of arresting me, the officer said, "Ok, I will make you a deal." Deal? I thought, I can take a deal, regardless whether or not it involves him beating the crap out of me with his nightstick, I will take a deal over instant arrest. "I will let you off with a verbal warning, if you promise not to exceed 65mph for the rest of the night," was his deal. I quickly agreed and swore on my honor that we would abide. And we did, even though we cruised through downtown Galveston at 64mph in a 35, we never broke the deal. Talk about lucky! So far, no tickets in the CTS even though it begs to be ticketed with the unlimited power on demand! Knocking on wood because I doubt I will ever be so lucky again. Ah, the brash foolishness of youth... FSU_Noles 01-24-06, 09:22 AM I have had 2 significant tickets... The first when I was 17 - "Exhibition of Speed" $220 fine, 1 year suspended jail sentence and 1 year probation. Judge was a real ***** and was trying to stop cruising. That was $220 in 1986 money :crying: - to a 17yr old. 1969 SS Chevelle :burn: Speeding - 93 in a 70. Was in my Corvette and fortunately he caught me slowing down because I was easily over 110 with plenty of room left in 4th gear. The problem is you were doing 90 in a 55. You know what they will say? They'll tell you dosnt matter if your speedo was a bit off, 90 in a 55 is a HUGE differnce in speed and you should have known you were going way too fast. I tried the whole speedo off thing, even had a workslip made by a mechanic who is a freind stating they replaced some faulty chip. Cop wouldnt buy it. Told me ive been driving for 5 years and that I should know the differnce between 92 and 70. And if I dont, I shouldnt be on the road. He said if it was 80 in a 70 he could understand a faulty speedo, but 92 in a 70 is a big difference and he was right, he did eventually drop it down a bit, but didnt throw out the ticket. Even in the book I bought, the retired officer who wrote it brought up speedometer excuses. ''The next frequently used gem is, "My speedometer is broken." It is heard so often that the officer just assumes you are lying." "In addition, it is no excuse and if you were seen to be passing other vehicles by the cop, he will only be irritated by that comment" "How many times has someone told me, "I had my cruise control set at sixty-two," when they had been pulled over for seventy or more in a fifty-five zone! The sensation of speed at sixty-two is nothing like seventy and anyone driving a car who does not know the difference has no buisness on the road." pjohnesq 01-24-06, 01:26 PM I'm not lawyer, but from experience that won't work. I'm a lawyer - - and I know that would not work, that's why I wrote "lol"....I really have no defense to this tkt...I'm basically hoping that I can just make a showing that their estimate was inaccurate and they basically have no hard evidence (radar, video, etc.) of me doing 90...
