hey guys me rear shocks were gone on the 95 deville and i had checked to see if it tuned on about 2 weeks ago and it was fine and now it doesnt turn on after i installed the boston suspension so now im guessing the compressor's shot because they supposly tend to blow after your shocks do because the compressor stays on all the time thinking it has to raise the car, well anyway's the piont is i need to replace the compressor is there anything i need to know before i do it, i mean do the fuses/relay usually go on them before they blow or can i just replace a part on them etc.
also is there anything i should know if and when dismantling the compressor to install the new one, ohh and last thing anyone know where i can get one for a decent price ? because gmpartsdirect wants 360.00 and ebay has it for 200, anyone know of a place where i can maybe get a rebuilt one or something like that? and if other models fit also ?

When You Hear The Compressor On & Running It's Doing It's Job. Spray Up The Lines & Fitting At The Shocks & Compressor With A Bottle Of Soapy Water. Guaranteed To Find Any Leaks. Trace Your Air Lines Going To The Shocks & Do This Also. Sounds Like You've Got A Leak Between The Compressor & Your Lines & Fittings. Good Luck

Check All The Fuses & Wiring Going To The Compressor. Make Sure You Have Juice Going To It. If So I Think You Have To Use A Jumper Wire To Activate The Compressor After Installing New Shocks. Good Luck

ok... a more defined answer, but only because you doubt my first one lol. here goes...

that lil compressor is fully capable of producing up to 200psi. you "could" go ahead and get a guage to test its pressure, cap off both shocks, and see if it can produce atleast 120 psi. if it does, great. now cut off the compressor, it should HOLD 120 psi for atleast an hour. now, i doubt you have a fitting that small. so lets go to the common failures for that lil pump shall we?

main seal, between the pump and the pressure solenoid (the top metal piece with the wires going into it) if it leaks from the seals, you can make new seals out of RED RTV sealent... if its leaking from the solenoid... get a new top piece, or entire unit. it also leaks from the drier fittings when they get old (that black canister that connects to the pumps outlet pipe to the hoses going to the rear) the whole system is controlled by a sensor on the rear passenger suspension. you cant miss it, its the only little black box with a metal arm coming out of it that moves with the shocks. obviously, when the car is higher then its intended range, it turns that solenoid on.... when its lower, it turns the pump on... when its nice and comfy inbetween, it does... you guessed it. nothing.

the reason i said junkyard......... is because quite frankly, thats the only place your not going to get robbed. however..... those pumps usually outlast 3-4 sets of air shocks before they need any type of service... and usually it's just those seals or rubber grommets due to vibration. id check your shocks first.. then the air lines, good ol soap n watter brushed on will show most leaks... dont be afraid to soap n watter the compressor... just make sure its COLD when you spray it.

still.... junkyard remains my answer.

on a second note... you installed an aftermarket suspension. not oem struts. do the boston's have an air bladder system? do they even use the air pump upfront? ive never used the boston, only true air struts on my cars....

conincidently I'm having the same trouble on my '92 deville. I just put in Monroe OEM equivlent sensatrac air shocks. since I put them in on saturday, the compressor only filled them up ONCE. after about 45 minutes the car sagged and the air bladder was totally deflated again. the pump hasnt come on yet and its been 3 days and 30 miles. Any ideas? I'm tempted to pull the relay, take the hoses out of the compressor and put a T on them and use my garage compressor. Thanks!
