The dealer is giving me crap (the swap is not possible, the VSS splice wire messed up the car computer..now they say I need a new one..and they still won't unlock the nav radio..). Are there any private shops or persons who can do it? If any of you guys around detroit area did it and could help please let me know.Thanks.

:hmm: I doubt the VSS splice messed up the "car computer". Unless you shorted something out. You can take your car to another GM dealer, Chevy, etc., and they can clear the code. I checked this out when I was installed my DVD NAV. The Chevy dealer was half the cost of the Cadillac dealer. Never had to use either. My DVD NAV was "code free". Oh yea, "the swap is not possible" is a standard line you get when you get the dealer involved. Too bad they're not "Cadillac Forum" members, they don't know sh1t.

Anybody with a Tech 2 should be able to reset the theft lock on your radio.
Try another dealer.

Guys I gotta tell you it's not because we "don't know shit" it because what we do is repair a manufactures defect, that is what we are trained in. The factory will never never lets us know if parts are "swappable" its crazy. Everything we do from looking up parts to repair procedures is VIN driven only.
I have a technician who was a two time winner of the GM silver wrench award winner, he was the number one GM technician in the COUNTRY, and he can't tell from the factory's information what if anything is adversely affected from a swap. obviously we know they can come from the factory equiped with NAV but they don't give instructions for swaps.
That said if you have a GOOD relationship with your DEALER they will find this stuff out for you, BUT if you already know it all and treat your advisor like "they don't know shit" guess what........wish granted.

As a dealer tech I don't know much about swaps because I rarely do them.
I would suspect that it could be hard but that's because I don't take the time to investigate it.
If you did the swap yourself, brought me your car and asked me to simply unlock the radio for you I would do it.
If it didn't work, that would be another story.
I am assuming they refused because the car had been "modified".
Just try another dealer and don't tell them about your modification, just tell them you need your radio unlocked and they will probably do it.
guys, problem solved; went to a chevy dealer and they did it for 50 bucks..no questions asked. I guess we don't deserve nice treatment from cadillac dealer..after all, we bought a chevy not a caddy:)

:hmm: Can't agree with what you're saying. I'm sure there are some super talented dealer mechanics. I can't say I've ever had a real pleasant experience with dealer service. It's sad when you take your vehicle in for factory authorized service and it takes numerous visits to solve/resolve a problem that should have been resolved the first time. If the dealer can't resolve the problem, where do we go? Are we expecting too much? I will only return to the dealer for a major warranty item. Unrelated to actual vehicle service, I went back to the local dealer, requesting five wiring terminals to complete the wiring installation for the NAV II mod. I had all the correct information, spoke to the service manager, and got the "can't be done" statement and attitude. All I wanted was to purchase the pieces I needed. It was uncomfortable, I had to kiss his a$$ to get what I needed. I played the game, got what I wanted. I even offered to buy his lunch for his efforts, and subsequently sent him a nice "thank you" email for his help. Instead of "how can I help you", he made it seem like a chore. When he stated (direct quote) "it can't be done", I said, "I've already installed the factory CTS NAV into a non NAV car". No further response. Thanks to this forum and the many other automotive/information forums available. As a result, we're better informed and not always at the mercy of dealer service. From experience, I know how to be diplomatic when necessary. All I want (expect) is professional service and competence.

Shucks, ill settle for a little courtesy over competency. My dealer shop guys are flat out rude and condescending. Must be my age...
