Well I went to the junkyard today. I wanted 2 things. The base to my arm rest as mine is broke, and the passenger side window outter window gasket as mine has been messed up since I bought the car, acutally I already tried to fix it 3 times (new one etc....)

Well, the gasket was a no go....

but damn... one of the cars there I saw before, but for whatever reason, never opened the door. It is a 1993 Sedan DeVille with the SAME interior color combo as my car! Light Neutral/Medium Neutral two-tone (one of my favorite interrior colors :) )

Well things like the whole door panel are of no use to me.... but there are lots of other goodies...

first, this car was REALLY dirty, the outside/engine was really bad, but when I removed the oil cap the inside of the engine was damn clean, I was shocked.

mileage is unknown as the car has a digital cluster that I MAY grab (probably not)

and on the whole dash was about 2 inches of heavy, grungy old dust that was just nasty. But, the dash was in perfect shap, I know the fade and seperation areas and there were NONE, this dash was mint!

Well, I have been wanting a spare dash for my car for a looong time now, and i had it staring me in the face! it was mine :)

The driver seat is ripped up, the passenger seat shows some wear, the back seat is mint, which I may or may not get, still undecided.

what I *DO* want is the dash.... not the upper dash pad... the whole freakin dash! Its the exact color as mine and in perfect shape, just dirty. It should be somewhat easy to remove as I already read thru the service manual. I asked how much for the whole lower dash and they said $35! Yeah, its mine :).

I was origanally going to get just the base of the arm rest, the outter part (behind the leather) of mine is broke, causing the leather to seperate and gaps and stff... same thing happeened to the lid, but I already fixed that (my foam/leather on the new plastic frame)

well, low and behold this car had a MINT arm rest... like brand new.. even open/close it it had a nice firm "pop" when closing. This was mine too :)

There was no coin holder or cup holder in it.. I found a coin holder but no cup holder... thats ok, I already bought a new cup holder from the junkyard last time, since i kinda broke my origanal one.

So the same interior means same carpet (which I may grab) but laying on the floor were the 4 origanal factory floor mats, pretty dirty, but in good shape... and there... I was acutally going to leave them, but I figured, what the hell, take them as spares, So it I did.

Anyway, got back cleaned them up then treated them with my good cleaner stuff, outcome is great.

So purdy! EXACT thing I have, I am so happy I got this! Heh, that little white box is my digital dash conversion box 'o fun... that silver thing is the BCM from my car, it is still fine, but i put the one i got from the junkyard in, its a newer reman anyway... same thing though.

The mats are kinda grungy still, they were loaded with junk, but I laid them out and used the Kirby on them, they had no idea what hit them after that! :) Cleaned all the stuff it could... these are spares but I would like to still clean them

Todays junk yard run: In the picture is my expensive leather/vinyl cleaner/conditioner... good stuff :)

http://inoventionseast.com/1993%20DeVille/1-18-06/PDR_1027.JPG

Total cost - $28.

Dash pad - $15 w/ $1 core (like I am bringing my dash pad back)

arm rest - $6

floor mats - 49 cents each

:) You can say I was pretty damn happy!

I'll be going back tomorrow or Firday for some more things... like the lower dash and MAYBE the carpet... it was stained in a few places, but I gotta see again.... The steering wheel was in good shape thought he dye was coming off in some places and the vinyl air bag cover look to have mini cuts on it... still, I dunno... eh, my steering wheel puller is kinda broke (can always get another one) But a spare air bag would always be nice to have.

Yeah, I am happy, the only major interior parts I want to get now are both left and right arm rests... GM was something like $120 each, maybe I'll just wait for them to show up a the junkyard.. I also would like both complete door panels... and doors :)

You lucky guy! I would love to find a match even though I don't really need anything. And, the pricing sounds great! Isn't it a rush to find a "like" vehicle available for spares? I love it.

If I ever find a Coupe with the light/medium neutral combo interior... I am going to strip just about every thing out of it :)

I am never selling this car. Ever. so I use the logic that, in 30 years, will I wish I got it? in 30 years if it breaks how hard will it be to find a replacement, the quality, the age etc...

With that dash treated, and then sititng in my closet, it is going to age very little (vs being in a car, the sun, temprature changes etc...) so now its like I will always have a mint ~13 year old dash pad, even in 30 years.... instead of in 30 years trying to find a 40-something year old pad in similar shape....

It all started when my father was excited he won an origanal climate control panel for his '68 GTO convertible (his high school car) This panel was from an AC car, his car isn't AC, and he wants to put it in. He was then saying how he used to be able to walk into the dealer and buy this stuff new... hideaway light switch was $12, where as they go for $300 roday. He was like "if only I knew...."

Well, I know :) and that is why I now have a second FDC, ECC, light switchs, speedo, computer, dash pad... and other high wear items or hard to replace parts :)

The hunt is still on tho, lots of stuff I still would like, but this dash pad was a major hit!

Looks like you got a really good price for all that stuff! I do that too and get good parts at junk yards when I see them. Haven't gotten anything for the Cadillac yet because so far I've only found one. Lots of DeVilles and Fleetwoods like yours but no Broughams except 80s ones and most of the parts I want are different on them. I use my Cadillac floor mats but I bought a set of clear ones to go over them to stop all the dirt from getting in them. I hate cleaning carpets in cars.
