View Full Version : I won. Its mine! I've been ebaying for weeks looking for a Continental, Seville, Eldo, Sebring, or Q45. I finally found the car I wanted at a ridiculously good price. I'm going to pick it up in Syracuse, NY and drive it home in a couple weeks.

I got outbid and the high bidder was a non-payer, so the owner contacted me and accepted my offer of $1550. Thats a crapload of car for under two grand! First thing I'll do is upgrade the exhaust so I can better-enjoy the sound of the Intech V8, then find some tasteful chrome wheels. :cool2:
Hell, even if it blows up after 30,000 miles I'll have gotten my money's worth, but I don't expect that to happen. I named it Jane. DopeStar 156 01-18-06, 01:37 AM Sweet dude! I had an opportunity to get a green one like that and I ended up getting my 99 Malibu instead..... Looking back on it I prolly shoulda checked out the Continental.... Night Wolf 01-18-06, 01:42 AM I used to live like 2 hours from Syracuse.
I bet you'll take the NYS Thruway....
"its only 6 exits up"
but these are NYS Thruway exits, and NYS Thruway exits are between 11-20 miles apart :)
I used to live off exit 18 - New Paltz, exit 17 - Newburgh was a cool city, my old favorite car wash was there, nice waterfront. Exit 19 - Kingston, another really cool city, I went to vo-tec near there and live in a small out on the edge of Kingston on my own for 3 months... great times... I really miss the area :(
Lots of luck tho :) CaddyCrisis 01-18-06, 01:42 AM Awesome car man! My friends mom just got a 1999 lincoln continental! Sweet! I need to find one like that...helluva deal, hope it works out great for you! DopeStar 156 01-18-06, 04:26 AM I used to live like 2 hours from Syracuse.

If you happen to stop in the Binghamton/Vestal/Johnson City area let me know. I~LUV~Caddys8792 01-18-06, 02:43 PM Nice dude nice!
The 95-97 Continentals are one of my favorite modern Lincolns.
I like the white leather!
Yours is one of the few 95-97's that I've seen that has the optional 6 seat configuration. addison_ii 01-18-06, 02:56 PM Nice buy Jesda, that's one nice looking ride. Katshot 01-18-06, 03:54 PM Good luck with it. The two I've had experience with were electrical nightmares. Hopefully yours will be different. caddydaddy 01-18-06, 04:55 PM Wow, a lot of former Upstate New Yorkers here! I'm originally from Elmira.
Good deal on the car, that's a good price! I~LUV~Caddys8792 01-18-06, 04:57 PM Yeah for the most part, those seem to be fairly reliable cars. Much better than those horrific 88-94's
I think the biggest problems on those are of course, the 4 air springs and computer controlled ride and steering. Good luck with it. The two I've had experience with were electrical nightmares. Hopefully yours will be different.
:yeah: so was mine. it was horrible. had the car for two years, bought it with 129k miles, got rid of it at 136k miles... two years 7k miles! i liked the style and the interior was great but i will never again own one. i put more money into it than what i bought it for, and that is no joke. all i can say is good luck, i cant even congratulate (sp?) you on it. sorry brother :( . Playdrv4me 01-18-06, 06:12 PM My 96 was one of the best cars I ever owned. The drivetrain in them is faultless compared to the Northstar and I proved this because I bought my car with 86k on it in 2001 and we got rid of it at 135k after beating the daylights out of it through Kansas winters and hot summers through its entire life. The only thing it ever needed was a tune-up at around 120k (while the factory specifies 100k, we let it go until it wouldnt even start anymore).
Yes, it had alot of little niggling things like a key cylinder that acted weird and basically was worn out, sometimes the door ajar message wouldnt go away for the drivers side door and there were numerous messages that would pop up on the display screen, but drivetrain wise that car never left you behind and even the heated seats were scorching and never broke.
The only thing, like most Lincolns it ever needed was the air suspension replaced, which was taken care of under the extended warranty contract at 1500.00 right before the warranty company went kaput.
Congrats Jesda. you must have had the only good one. my heated seats never worked, had that worked on and they couldnt figure it out. air ride was replaced twice, the computer went out on me several times, the rear passenger side door ajar wouldnt turn off on me and would leave the lights running and would drain the battery. i will agree about the drivetrain in these things though, solid. lets see, radiator went out on me and i dont know why. had it flushed and it was messing up, brought it back, they burped it, still overheated on me several times. had the brakes and rotors replaced (although that is going to happen so i dont count that). the windows were messed up, would roll half way down and then slide off the track, had that fixed a couple times, regulators messed up several times, 6 disc changer quit working, radio quit working, and the speakers quit working. so i replaced all of that. door panel clips broke off (uh before the replacing of the speakers that is) and had to replace them. so there is my list of problems... also i replaced the battery in it a couple times. oh yeah duh, alternator went out on me. and i had to replace some belts but that comes with age so i wont count that either.

Playdrv4me 01-18-06, 06:24 PM Oh the other thing that went on mine was the paint, thats why I only got 500.00 for it when I traded it in, the black paint was completely shot and oxideized all over the place. HA! my paint was perfect! gold. oh that reminded me, the sun roof messed up and was stuck open for two days. thank God it didnt rain. i got 800 for it and that was because my brother wrecked it before i traded it in. well he traded it in actually. he swerved to miss a deer and we hit the ditch. sucked but oh well. I~LUV~Caddys8792 01-18-06, 06:40 PM A kid I worked with bought a really nice looking 136k mile 1995 Conti from our boss for $1700.
Why so cheap you ask.......
Somebody died in that car.
I guess when it was a year or two old, the car got sideswiped pretty hard by a bigger truck or something. It hit on the passenger side and I guess the lady that was driving it slammed her head on the driver's door window, and it "bounced" off and hit the center console and she hemmoraged there and then died. If you look carefully, you can see the blood stain on the maple wood trim.
But yeah, the car is in that beautifiul Ivory Pearlescent Clearcoat (extra cost tri coat) with the ivory leather, and hes got the optional chrome wheels. well, i guess ill be moving to New Paltz.

http://www.strutmasters.com/lincoln/continental-recent.htm I~LUV~Caddys8792 01-22-06, 11:21 PM So you're not getting that Continental Jesda?
I could see you Jesda, standing by the Continental saying "my precious"
http://uashome.alaska.edu/~jndfg20/website/gollum.gif DBA-One 01-23-06, 06:59 PM My neighbor has one of those. It's been noting but trouble. However, my aunt's husband has one with nearly 200k miles. Sure it's had issues but nothing out of the ordinary for the miles. Things like the tranny, etcc.+ I~LUV~Caddys8792 01-23-06, 07:15 PM It seems like its a hit or miss car.
Either you get one thats really great, or its a total POS DBA-One 01-23-06, 07:50 PM Heard that. The one guy I know puts a thousand miles a week on his. Sometimes nearly nothing and it's been a good car. My neighbor, she only goes around the area and the car has nothing but problems. It's not like she bought junk, either. That car is a one owner car with a very thick service file. It's just a bad one I guess. My wife's Acura is the same way. I think we bought the only bad Legend. I'm not taking loans. Just grants and academic scholarships. sonjaab 01-24-06, 01:49 PM JESS.........I live 9 miles from Oswego NY!
I can go eyeball it if ya want.......................
Or if you buy it and are coming to the Syracuse area
