Happy new year all.

2001 STS has tire pressure sensors; second one just broke on me. While it's a cool feature, and I'm considering taking them all out & replacing with normal valve stems, b/c a.) they're expensive to replace, and b.) it's a pain having the tires rotated--ususally the shop doesn't know how to reprogram the orientation. Does anyone know:

a.) if this procedure works for all Caddys: http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/tprepro.html

b.) if I take out the sensors, will I always get the "Check Tire Pressure" notice on dash (in the absence of any sensors sending a signal)

c.) what the part # is for the sensors (want to try GMPartsDirect.com) to see how much.

Thanks guys.

a) No,

On our cars you need a small donut shaped magnet. I made one for $2 from a Magenet I bought at Home Depot.. the procedure is similar
1) Car "on" but not running
2) Press and hold lock and unlock till horn honks
3) place donut magnet over driver front stem wait for horn toot
4) next passenger front
5) then passenger rear
6) then driver rear... Horn will toot toot.. And your done...

easiest part of the rotation IMO...

b) No, the function can be disabled by the dealer... This is more for people who buy bling bling 20" rims..

c) how are you breaking them... They look plenty strong to me...

I got a new set of 2003 DTS "ALL CHROME" Wheels on my car. I was going to have those stems transferred to the new wheels. I Was concerned about the TPM system giving me messages. But I just said F it, I always monitor tire pressure myself anyway. I don't get any strange messages at all...? I guess w/out the monitor stem on the wheel... No signal is being sent... So whatever...

BTW, Anybody want a set of near mint 2003 17" Caddy STS wheels????

Thanks Ur7x--how big is the magnet? (say, a circular/disk magnet with a hole in the middle, size of a hockey puck or so?...could probably pull one of those off an old speaker). Anyway, one got knocked & broken on a new tire install (they replaced it, but the hassle of going back was a pain) and my latest problem was another one just crapped out on its own...pin in the stem got jammed.

No bling rims in my future so if it means a trip to dealer to deprogram the dash warning, maybe I'll take the path of least resistance & just order a new sensor to have the tire shop replace it next rotation.

Any kind soul have the part # for the tire sensor.

Thanks again...this is a huge help!

Doesn't need to be all that big to work..

I bought 2 1"x2"x 1/2" ceramic magnets from the depot (came in a package together)

I broke one in half ground out a notch on each end turn them around and "stuck" them back to the not broken magnet... This works great and it lives stuck to the roof of my tool box

BTW if you know a transmission shop or if you want something "perfect" the donut shaped magnet that lives in the inside of most automatic transmissions are also supposed to work well... I've heard that Saturn's are the best...

Ur7x,

Can you post a pic of your home-made magnet?

PICTURES! FINALLY!

Step one (first picture) buy two magnets 3/4" x 1 3/4" (they come in a package of two) sorry no picture of the package.. I got mine at Home Depot for like $3CAN

Step two (Second picture) break one in half and grind away a notch from each half

Step three (third picture) line up the notches to make a hole and

Step four use the unbroken magnet to hold it all together...

Easy as 3.1415927....
