I used that link, and my car came up with 16 records. Not sure what all the fuss is about, we had the car since 1996. Sorry cant help you with free check, I didnt pay either.

The Experian deal is pretty accurate, my STS shows a Front Impact Collision (front bumper cover) on both the Experian and Carfax databases. Not that you should ever take either as fact for vehicles that claim to be accident free (still need to inspect it yourself), but odds are if something IS on there, than it IS true.

I just ran mine and it shows accident data. Dont recall that being on my Carfax when I bought it. Though I now know the rear bumper was painted, and badly painted!

Personally, I lost all faith in Carfax when I checked on an '87 300ZX I had for 17 years just to see what records would come back. The car had unfortunately been in numerous accidents (not my fault) with accident reports, but Carfax said the car had no accidents. Other records were also incorrect. I felt the system was essentially useless. Just my 2 cents ...

It truly amazes me the number of people who believe CARFAX reports like they were the gospel...

Here is the truth:
1) A "clean" CARFAX report tells you NOTHING.
2) A "dirty" CARFAX report can be helpful

Either report is only a starting point. You still need to take the car (if you can't do this yourself) to a trusted bodyshop or mechanic to look for accident damage and/or other repairs.

In my opinion save your money... and use the the $30 bucks to pay your bodyshop/mechanic to get their opinion.

This is especially important these days as thousands and thousands of "Katrina" cars are hitting the market...Some documented... Some not...

I knew it was hit at some point. The paint on the rear bumper is chipping away and the rear tail pipes were crunched in a bit. One finally rusted off a couple months ago. And there's nothing really left to weld back on.. So im stuck with 1 tail pipe. But yea, Ill probably take my next car to a body shop instead of relying on carfax next time.

An interesting feature I just noticed on Carfax reports, that was not there a year ago when I bought my car in Texas (and ran a Carfax prior to purchase) is that if a car was registered or renewed in a "Storm Area" during the prior 12 months of last year's hurricanes, that fact is flagged on the report. So because my car's 2004 registration was renewed in Houston, TX it now comes up as a suspect vehicle. Even though I bought it BEFORE the hurricanes, and besides, the storms did not reach Houston to any great degree anyway.
