My Maggie came with a 3.0 pulley, Magnuson sent the 2.8. I asked them how to change it, as I didn't want to damage the shaft or anything. They said to get a belt wrench and don't use an impact wrench, torque to 45 ft lbs. I bought a big strap wrench and it doesn't seem to hold the pulley well enough to back the nut off (applying a hell of a lot of muscle):banghead: . How did the rest of you do it?

PS: the Maggie is still on the bench

Measure the distance from the end of the shaft to the pulley and write it down. I used an impact wrench to remove the nut and a pulley puller to remove the pulley. I then used an impact wrench to tighten the nut and pull the pulley back to the same distance as the original. If you tighten it up too far, it will hit the bracket.

GTHow did you secure the shaft so it didn't turn?

When I did it, the Maggie was on the car. So, the belt kept it from turning.

If you use an impact wrench the torque upon start-up should loosen it. This is the way I removed the Pulley on my Viper Paxton SC. Also used the impact to tighten. I had no belt on the pulley.

Impact wrench to remove, and very careful impact wrench to replace. Over torquing might cause bearing problems (not that I know  )

How do I keep the pulley from turning when I put the impact on it?

The ratchet action of an impact will bring the nut where you want it. Just get the key in place and tap it on to get it started. It will go on, no problem. Hold the shaft by hand. After its a good way on, you can put the belt on to hold it.

The problem is getting the nut off, I'm not concerned about getting it on. The shaft and pulley turn even with the strap wrench on it and I can't break the nut loose.

Should I install the Maggie with the 3.0 on the car first and they try to change the pulley?????

Sounds like porno........

Its not even on the car? should be easy. Any 1/2" impact with at least 100psi supply will zip it right off. Whatever you do dont put a vice grip on the shaft. Lawfive will have to bring you to the hospital..

I'll try that, but I think the pulley will just spin!!!!!!

Got it done with the impact and strap wrench to break it loose. Put it back on using a torque wrench to 45#. Thanks

Good..
Get a straightedge, make sure that the belt is properly lined up or it will shave all over.
