View Full Version : braking noise periodically, pads seem fine

I've got ~15k on the V and recently noticed some brake squeel, what I would assume was indicators. I pulled the front wheels (had new pads in hand just in case) and the pads were about 65-70% material remaining compared to the new OEM pads.

I noticed it doesnt squeel all the time, just usually at slower speed braking. The car stops great still, it's just an annoyance. Anyone else have this? I'm not really worried about it, just curious if other people noticed the same.

I haven't tracked it at all, no drags either. Just straight city driving, and a few runs through the twisties in the hills.

I started to get some squeal at about 28K. My car also brakes fine with no fade. Maybe it is just the pad from the factory.

I get it also. I heard there was a way to do some runs up to around 65-70mph I think and brake hard without coming to a complete stop and this reduces the squeal. I think its like 10 runs, i'm not sure. Some of our experts here probably know more about this than I do.

thats the bedding process, not to be used for already worn pads....its likely just dust and other garbage collecting on your pads/rotors.

Same here too. Annoying as hell, but I'm dealing with it. Can anyone who has put Hawk pads on noticed if they've gotten the same sort of noise after putting some miles on theirs?

My dealer told me it was normal. I had them check it at my last service.

most fixed caliper brakes will make noise, reason why infiniti stopped offering them on the G35. bedding them in sometimes will help, but should be needed if the pads have never have been switched.

Remove the pads and put some of that de-squeal on the back side of the pads, the side that contacts the caliper, not the disk. Sometimes the squeal will come from pad movement between the caliper and pad. I've done this on other cars, havent been into the V's brakes yet myself.

I have this every once in a while on the Corvette. You probably need to lay down a new layer of carbon on the rotors. Brake 4 times from 60 to 10 MPH using medium to hard pressure. Don't lock up the wheels or engage ABS. Drive to cool down the rotors about 10 minutes. This works for me every time. Or, the other option that is more fun, sign up for a HPDE.

Good luck.
