View Full Version : CTS "V" series vs BMW "M" series rearend...... I have seen BMW M3's and M5's taking high shift beatings during street racing, and just plain old fashion fooling around, doing parking lot burnouts...... Just curious to know what they are using for a rearend, and if they have problems too...... as well as how it compares to the one in the "V". Joey'sVee 01-11-06, 05:19 PM Not sure...I wonder what rear the SRT8's are using. wildwhl 01-11-06, 05:21 PM FWIW - If in a slide or position other than straight line tire spinning, I get little or now wheel hop...not that I drive like that or anything :sneaky: Jay VDC 01-11-06, 05:37 PM my younger brothers 300c srt8 get NO WHEEL HOP....i got a video of him laying strips down all day long up and down the street, not one inch of hop...amazing. Post that vid! srt-8's won't wheel hop for one simple reason they are automatics with torque converter reducing the power to the wheels, unless heavily modified i doubt you get any wheel hop. any independent rear suspension car will wheel hop. i bet i could get a new ZO6 or even a ferrari to wheel hop. i think i've seen the z06 hop but the new ferrari is going to be hard to get it hop since they come with launch control. FWIW - If in a slide or position other than straight line tire spinning, I get little or now wheel hop...not that I drive like that or anything :sneaky:
My '05 GTO is just the opposite. If it is wet and going straight when the tire break loose I get a little cyclical bobble out of the rearend. If drifting and the tires break loose, just smooth tire spin.
I think there maybe some soft lateral bushings that may need addressed.

I think you just agreed to the same statement...or maybe I can't read well anymore. I'm sure their diffs are stronger than ours. You also have to remember, however, that the M3 only puts out 260tq and the E39 M5 is less than the 395lbft in the 'V' as well. Check out the 03-04 Mustang Cobra's, they are putting out well over 500 RWHP with mods and their rears seem to be up to the task. Vipers as well. GM engineers must smoke crack from time to time. Dual mass flywheel...V6 IRS...WTF??? BowenCT 01-11-06, 08:07 PM 1. ok when i get back to school i'll get it up

I live in New Milford. Bought my car at Danbury Cadillac. I've had it serviced there and at Park Cadillac in New Milford.........painfully bad service at both. Where did you buy yours? There was another member here from CT, but I think they sold their V. I think there maybe some soft lateral bushings that may need addressed.

You are right...there's too much squigling around back there...the trailing arms and toe-links are all rubber mounted for NVH reduction. That causes a great deal of instability, and then the hop joins the party.

not entirely true. yes, some cobras are putting out over 500hp with stock rear ends but those rear ends will go at any momonet with that much hp. Most cobras with that much power have upgraded rear ends like those from the driveshaftshop. They have even been known to grenade at stock hp levels.
true, they probably are not as ***** as the stock cts-v rears but they have definately been known to suck. |
