Little brother turned 15 yeasterday ......I thought the plan was that he wouldnt start driving till hes 15 and a HALF.....

Somewhere along the way i guess that plan went out the window ...and hes going to the DMV to pick up a permit .....

And hes looking at my car funny ......Im gonna have to slap him ....

In the grand scheme of things there is a certan irony. Becuse it seemed like just yesterday i destoyed his little tykes Cozy Coupe horseing around in the living room (i fliped it)....Ive taught tons of people how to drive ....taught a few how to REALLY drive ....But i aint looking forward to this .....Hes fearless and played way to much X box .....Hes gonna think this car is one thing , and its gonna let him know its another ...Traffic is worse nowadays , the drivers are worse ...and the car were dealing with has alot of time and money wrapped up in it .....I know we will be safe ....but damn ....

haha I'm 15 also. Tell your 15yr old bro i'll kick his ass if he as so much puts dent or scratch on your car. I learned to drive when i was 10, but i'm a little freaked out to drive MY car as it has a custom metal flake paint job. They are many retards out there. I get my Learner in july, it'll be awesome to see looks on guys faces that have fart cans, lol. Good Luck!!

Ok, this is no offense to anyone, but what kind of 15 year old dreams of Cadillac Deville's? When I was 15, I always dreamed of owning one of the C4 Corvette's, not a Cadillac (even though I ended up with a '90 Eldorado). He should be dreaming of Corvette's, Mustang's, etc etc. I say buy the kid a poor condition, old muscle car or Corvette and have him take autoshop to learn how to transform the car from a pile of junk to a radiant beauty. That way he'll learn values such as hard work, patience, and have a greater respect for what he has.

lets be honest he doesnt dream of it .....but he wants to drive it , thus looking at it funny .....hes got dream cars , i have no clue what they are , that changes all the time ....but i think you remeber when you were 15 , it was "whats there" ..apprently over a 05 MAXX ...and lets be honest , what would you rather have your freinds see you drive ?

as for his first car , im pushing for a dodge ramcharger or plymoth prospector (the blazer looking thing)

Ok, this is no offense to anyone, but what kind of 15 year old dreams of Cadillac Deville's? I did oh wait no, it was '70s Eldorados and Fleetwood Broughams....I wanted a muscle car when i was 14....nothing like a 1992 Trans Am GTA..but dad said no so I said "hmmm what else has a V8 and is powerful??? A '70s vintage Eldorado or Mark IV. At first I just wanted it for the V8 power, but the more I looked into them the more I fell in love with every aspect of the Cadillacs and Lincolns

of coarse my big dream was always the newest corvette .....

True. Does he have a job of any sort? I think kids should earn an item like that, instead of someone just handing them the keys (road to disaster). I think the best thing is, what I posted about about him rebuilding a car, or maybe paying for half, his parents match him dollar for dollar sort of thing.

My brother's 13 and says he wants a 1989 Lincoln. Haha I dunno what kind, just an 89 Lincoln. Prolly a Mark since that's what I had.

Stoney, invest some money in a good alarm.... And lock your car up! Dead switch wouldn't hurt.....

The 2.2 liter K-car turbo or the DSM's?

Both are quite unreliable from what i've heard and experienced

Im glad I paid for my car and didnt get the parents to buy it for me.

I also think you're more careful with the car when you pay for it yourself, you think twice about going around a corner doing 50 mph!

Stoneage_Caddy

2.2 k car ......
nowadays i really like those engines , but back then when i was still a little green behind the ears on cars it was a nightmare ....but now id jump right on one , perferably a 93 Iroc Daytona or a 87 GLHS

No no no, a kid's first car should never be anything powerful or nice. Doesn't matter how good a kid is at 16, he's still gonna do things that he wouldn't if he were even 18 or 20 for that matter. It's all about learning to appreciate what people older and wiser than you have earned. Thank God I didn't get the Brougham for my first car, or we'd both be in certain types of yards. I wouldn't have appreciated fuel injection, leather seats, the ability to lay a patch, any number of things! Thank you Pontiac, for building an 18+ second car.

Yeah, I think that Buick was too nice of a first car for me...In a weird way, I kind of envied my friend who had a beater '87 Accord LX-i for his first car. It was such a POS he didnt care what happened to it at all, and he drove it like a bat out of hell. Now that he's worked his ass off at two jobs. He's financing a 2001 Accord EX-V6 Coupe and man does he appreciate that!

get him an older Ford crown vic, good safe reliable car, and pretty cheap
I had an 86 chrysler new yorker with the turbo 2.2, never had problems with the engine, just other stuff, ran great for me

man Mike that sucks. i taught my lil brother on my pos 91 nissan. my other brother on my 95 Lincoln (which was scary). i think that is what your brother needs, a 91 nissan sentra. i drove to and from morristown on senior day and raced every person i could on the interstate. man was that thing ever slow! it would start rattling at around 75 and i pushed it up to 85 and i thought it was gonna blow up. ha, i am so glad i got rid of that thing. traded it for my Cutlass.

actually, when i was 15 i wanted a 96 Fleetwood Brougham. i wasnt horsepower muscle car crazy though like most kids. i wanted a slow low cruiser, but that is what i grew up around... lowriders. i could care less how much hp was in it. as long as it was big and rwd.

Hey Dopestar, I just have to have an 89 Lincoln sitting outside right now. Stoney, we must hold a group prayer for Gladys :D My 17 year old brother is learning how to drive and wants a Fleetwood. I said: you a RWD car in MN learning how to drive :nono:? Then I laughed so hard till my head hurt and reminded him of the incident in mom's 91 Park avenue where he's trying to back up and guns it because he thinks the car isn't going fast enough and almost makes a new entrance into our apartment complex.

I said: you a RWD car in MN learning how to drive :nono:?

My first car was that '95 Roadie and that thing, with brand new tires, was better in the snow than my deville is.

I was surprised! I thought that the combo of RWD, a LSD, and 330 lb/ft of torque at 2400rpm would send me off the road in a matter of seconds!

I drive my TC all the time now but my brother is the kind of driver who stomps on the brake for the car to stop(giving me whiplash and possible sliding in icy weather) and his foot turns to lead while making the car move from a stop( leading to fishtailing in a RWD car) I'm just trying to save the unlucky people who will be sharing the road with him from a very scary situation :histeric:

Oh so he's just a bad driver?!

oh gotcha!

get him something big, underpowered and cheap and of course, FWD!

yeah but he's only learning now, it'll be scary when he actually gets his DL. As for the car type those parameters are exactly what I'm advising my mom on. Very slow, medium sized, and FWD not to mention my favorite word CHEAP!!

He wants a Caddy so I was thinking the 81-84 Eldorado or the 85-87 SDV with the 4100 :D

1988-90 FWD with the 4.5. Or I supooose you could get him a 91-93 FWD with a 4.9. But I wouldnt go that new of a Caddy with someone who drives like that.

I would have loved to get a 79-85 Eldorado, but my dad said no because the '80s were not a great time for GM (or anyone in particular) and those cars have no ABS or Air bag which is mandatory for a car for either me or my brother.

I~LUV~Caddys8792

Personally, I would make sure he doesnt get a Cadillac...I would hate to see such a fine car fall into careless hands....

But thats just me, dont mean to offend you at all :)

01-11-06, 06:57 PM
None taken but my reasoning is that if he gets a Caddy then he'll appreciate it and NOT be careless with it. But a nice late 80's or early 90's import would probably be a better first car.

I~LUV~Caddys8792
01-11-06, 07:05 PM
Yeah definetly an import midsize sedan (Accord/Maxima/Camry) would be a better first car mainly because it's much cheaper to run and its something you can get damaged, and you wont care too much.

I really wish I would have held off on a Caddy until I was out of college because then I wouldn't be so financially burdened. Logically, I would have bought something like a 1991 Honda Accord or even a Park Ave/ Bonneville/ Ninety Eight with the excellent 3800 V6, but I had to have the Caddy, which is an awesome car, but I would have more money if I chose the economical car. I wouldnt have a car to be proud of, but it would do.
