Which one are you partial to?

That camaro is definetly an oddity (in a good sense), but I'm more partial to the Challenger. The Shelby is nice, but just a Ford Mustang on some serious steroids (just like in the 60's). If I wanted a car to attract attention to myself, I'd buy the Camaro, but I think the Challenger is more my style. If they do come out with the Challenger in '08 or '09, I'll probably get one.

The Camaro looks really bad to myself. I really like the Challenger the best as well, simply because it looks a lot like the old version, while still looking good as a new "today" car. Not sure if that makes sense, but in a whole it means I think the Challenger is the best of the three.

The Challenger, I always liked Mopar's muscle cars the most!

I also like Mopar's muscle cars but as far as looks go I got to go with the Camaro. It's just an awesome looking car.

The Challenger, just cause it looks right.

Camaro 1st
Challenger 2nd (very close though)
Shelby 3rd

The Mustang looks dated. Kinda funny since they're all reproductions in a sense. Owning one of each would be the ultimate.

Personally I love the new Camaro. I think the front end looks downight mean, predatory in a way and the car has a threatening profile. My dad has an 05 Mustang GT and intends to get a Cobra, so one way or another, I'll have one of those already. I don't like the Challenger.... I really don't. I've never been too fond of Mopar's muscle cars and this particular one doesn't appeal to me. I don't like anything about it.....

I am very much buying a Camaro when I get outta college though. I gotta have one of those.

I'm the one vote for the Shelby. I'm a forced-induction-aholic and I'm not afraid to admit it. Boost is addicting no doubt about it. The 2003+ blown Cobras are nothing short of spectacular both stock and in how they respond to mods. I expect even more from the new Shelby.

Camaro all the way. I like the squared off look rather then the rounded look that the others have, especially on the Charger

IMO, the Camaro (if it turns out actually looking like that) is a very handsome machine, and likewise the Challenger. The Mustang is also nothing to snicker at. It's a very tough choice, but.....there is just SoMeThiNg about the two words of "CHALLENGER" and "SIX POINT ONE LITRE HEMI" that rings my bell all the way home ! Challenger it is. While the Challenger looks masculine, the Camaro looks feminine, not in a bad sorta way, but IMO (again) a muscle car needs to look masculine, mean, and warrior-like. Challenger it is. BUT....wait for the Convcertible in 2007, with the SRT-8. Plum Crazy or triple black.

Boy, it's a great life, when 'ya sell them the 1st time around (1970) - have a free one for a "demo" and live 36 years later, and get to do it all over agin!
Damn good.

Does anyone actually know if the Camaro will be a production vehicle or is it just a concept at this point in time?

If I had enough money (and parking spaces), I'd LOVE to have the Camaro, Charger, GT500, and the Challenger! I wonder what they'll be worth 40 years from now...

I've actually began changing my opinions on the return of retro. I can't agree the Challenger is the best of the bunch, because it looks too much like the old Challenger. A lot of people like this, but I realized this is impractical, because that was a '70 Challenger, this is 2006. The styling must be different. It has to be updated. The Camaro does the best job of tipping it's hat to the old-school while going with a fresh new design.

That Challenger is the only one that gets my heart pumping. Reminds me so much of my younger days spent drooling over the 'Cudas and Challengers. It will be a harder choice if GM uses a different design for the Camaro (like the ones I posted) but, for now it's the MOPAR all the way. I also hear the MOPAR will have a supercharged version soon as well!

We can't forget the NEW, old GTO that they're re-styling for 2008. Here's one of the popular sketches. It certainly looks MUCH better than the current goat, but still lacks something...

I will own a Challenger when they come out. Not new, of course, cause I'm young and don't have the money, but within a year and a half, I will own one. My friends are getting sick of hearing it, cause I keep telling them I'll own one, but damnitt, its going to happen!

I like the Camaro and the Challenger but voted for the Challenger. I have a 1/24th model of a Barracuda/Challenger and I just like the look. They both appeal to me and I would love to own them both. BTW I agree with Katshot on the sketch of the GTO looking like a Mitsu.

I couldn't think of it before but now it just hit me.

A bullet, the Camaro looks like a bullet. Pointed front, rounded end, long hood. A perfect integration of retro styling and modern design. It kinda looks like the 69 to me, at least from a profile..... Gorgeous.

I wonder what trims we'll see? SS of course, but they have to make a Z-28 trim. The Camaro needs the Z-28 nameplate.

GM needs to build this and make it hit the market before 2009. Spring of 2007 as an early 2008 model. These three cars are what will put The Big Three back on top. This is a place where the Japanese can't follow them, the american market is demanding this kind of thing and it's GM, Ford, and Dodge's time to shine.

Now to ask the ultimate question:

"Which one do you think is the fastest?"

I think the Challenger will smoke 'em all with that 6.1 LITER V8 ENGINE!

Sandy
01-08-06, 11:22 PM
The beauty of the Challenger is just that...it's 95% identical to the 1970, and THAT has NEVER been done before! The style has endurred so well, it gives credence to the viability of the inherant beauty thereof. A 36 year old design and IMO it looks way better than the Mustang, which I actually liked, until the Challenger appeared. I understand (my source could be wrong) that 3 engines (eventually) will be on board. Initially the smaller Hemi, and later the SRT-8 Hemi and finally (maybe) a supercharged version of the smaller Hemi. The "Hi-Impact" colors will also return, but I do not know if that will include ALL of the original ones, or just a sampling thereof. Finally, a convertible version.
Who here recalls: Panther Pink; Plum Crazy; SubLIME; Sassy Grass Green; Go-Mango; Hemi Orange; Top Banana; Butterscotch; Basin Street Blues; and Snow White ??? Katshot ?

I love Sassy Sass Green...that was one of my favorite muscle car colors ever!

SpeedyArizona
01-08-06, 11:39 PM
The muscle car era was before my time, but one color I truly love is Plum Crazy Purple. The muscle car color were taken right from a Crayola Crayon box which I absolutely love. Nowadays colors are bland and just plain unexciting.

When and if (more when than if) they come out with the Challenger, mine will be ordered with the R/T package consisting of Plum Crazy Purple and a big 'ole black striple going down the side with the word "HEMI" in it. I'm also going to get a Shaker hood, I don't care what it's going to cost to install, I'm getting a Shaker!

This, however, leads me to ponder the question of, "What will this cost?" The top-notch GT Premium Mustang comes in slightly under $30,000, and while the Challenger is GREAT, it's meant to compete with the Mustang. I figure the SRT-8 version will be nearing the $38,000 mark, but what will the base HEMI Challenger be priced at? The R/T package will probably be an option which most will take advantage of, but it better not be priced out-of-line with the 'Stang.

And it will REALLY tick me off if they have the base Challenger with a V6 engine, that just won't do!

So, what do you guys think they'll price this beast around?

I~LUV~Caddys8792
01-08-06, 11:41 PM
Well they'll price it to compete with the mustang, so like $22,000 to $35,000 im guessing

01-08-06, 11:54 PM
That GTO sketch is a very old privately done drawing and has no roots at GM. The word is that the new GTO will have a lot of 1970-72 Body style with with trim and lights resembling some of the late '60's models.

I was estimating in the same ballpark. The R/T package will probably add a grand or two. I just wonder what the base Challenger will run and more importantly, what size engine it'll have. I honestly don't think they should put a V6 as a standard engine and then have larger ones you can "upgrade" to. I think the base should have a V8, maybe not a HEMI V8 though. The minimum horsepower rating should be 340 and the HEMI version should reach 426 (the SRT-8 Charger has a horsepower rating of 425, surely they can squeeze one extra horse out of there).

Originally, the teenagers who bought these muscle cars were minimalist's. They didn't want an frills attached to their cars, all they wanted was a big engine and a small price. I think the automakers should continue that tradition by not having a whole list of options to chose from, just keep it cheap and simple. I don't mean options like not having a cd player; I mean options like navigation systems, heated seats, etc. One phrase that I learned in grade school pops into my mind, "KISS- Keep It Simple Stupid!"

90Brougham350
01-09-06, 12:49 AM
Bingo! A muscle car by definition is what, a mid-size with a larger engine, fewer options, and possibly better brakes / suspension? Muscle cars should be inexpensive, in the mid-20's. Regarding the GTO, currently, it's a joke, and GM knows it. It's decently quick, but the styling falls flat on its face, because, let's face it, it's not a GTO, it's a Holden. If the new generation will indeed have styling from the early 70's models, well, alright!

I voted Camaro.

It looks like more of a weapon than the Mustang.

The Challenger just looks too old to me. Yes I love Challengers, but if I want one that looks pretty much exactly lke a 1970s one I'll go and buy a 1970s one.

I do fear GM may be too late to the party again (as they were first time around with the Camaro).
The new Mustang with it's fashionable retro looks will have been released almost 4 years earlier. ie a complete car development cycle earlier. GM have seen how succesful it is and now decide to respond. That's too slow.

I hope they keep prices in line with teh Mustang. they really shouldn't be charging a penny more. They tried that with tyhe 4th Gen, which was a faster car with more equipment, but wht keeps these things in production is a good aftermarket for the V8 models, and a bargain basement V6 price (which is where the majority of Mustang sales come from).

I'd take a Challenger over the others, it looks fantastic and I'm pretty sure it'll be as fast.

Yeah Sandy, I remember all those colors alright. Some would say that MOPAR was a little wierd with their colors back then but it played into the "fun" that was the muscle car craze IMO. It wasn't about business, it was about creating a "gotta have it" feeling about the cars and making the cars fun to drive, mod, and race.
Oh, and I heard the same thing about the blown Hemi too Sandy.

I just wish that instead of trying to make a few bucks on the Camaro nameplate they would have marketed it as a different name. As a standalone vehicle they would have a path forward in design, I can't wait until the 82 Z28 is remade :rant2:

Afterall, they didn't call the SSR an El Camino did they?

But the "camaro" is a good looking ride.

I would have voted if there were an 'all of the above' option.
I think they all look good. As for which will be the fastest, well, stock is one thing but if you are talking about after market mods which are sure to be plentiful for these three girls it will be a matter of money and ingenuity.

I can visualize the Town Car with a 4-Sale sign on it and a Panther Pink Challenger R/T Convertible with NO striping and white top & interior with a supercharged Hemi in my driveway, with every option available, (But NO stripes) and going down the Garden State Parkway, top down, with my wife next to me yelling, "God Dammit, slow the F down !!!"

The original Challengers had very little "quality" built in. They were about FUN, PIZZAZ, LIFE-STYLE, YOUTH, FREEDOM, SPEED, and HEY, LOOK AT ME factor. I hope they do a bit better on the quality aspect, this time.

At the very least, make the doors fit the body!

My son says, IF you put down the top & drive too fast, your hair is gonna start falling out, faster than it allready is! < how ya like that >

Camaro: Too bloated looking. Maybe it will look better in production.

Mustang: Doesn't do anything for me.

Challenger: Don't like Chrysler products, including this one. This car is pretty close in looks to it's namesake, though.

I'd get a CTS-V instead of any of these.

Although giving the Challenger my favorite color ( for a 70's muscle car that is: midnight purple) did make it lustworthy  but the orange Camaro i posted has that cassic/modern look that i like, while this is straight old-school in a very good way (oh, i just can't choose, lol)

The Camaro is nice, but the styling is too...well, its unrefined and a bit too sharp. And bloated. The Challenger looks great, but I'm not much of a MOPAR fan, and the Mustang is nice and the Shelby is nicer, but Ford doesn't do much for me...I guess I'll have to wait and see what the next Supra/Skyline/GTO/ look like...

90Brougham350

I can see why the thought exists the Camaro looks bloated, but I can assure you, once the vehicle is built and actually photographed, it'll look years apart from these images. I didn't care for the (gasp!) CTS-V until I actually saw MN_CTS_Vette's in person. It was a quick love at first sight. The front clip of the Camaro just looks so damn sharp!
