I bought a 77 Coupe Deville a few months ago, and it has a hood ornament that has the shape of the caddy logo, but is just a grill, not the solid plastic yellow, black, red & blue as seen on the trunk lock cover. Is this the stock hood ornament, or did somebody pry out the plastic inserts that would normally be there?

Thanks in advance.

Yup, that is the normal hood ornament for 1977.... ugly isn't it? :)

Hi,
I think the see-through hood ornament is classic and unique. It first came out on the 1974 deVille d'Elegance models and was standard on all 1977 deVilles. The colored ornament was standard starting in 1978. Attached is a picture of the see-through ornament I accidentally broke off of my very first Cadillac which was owned by my parents and I was lucky enough to have fun driving when I was in college.

It doesn't seem as distinctive as the full color emblem, but I appreciate finding out that it's stock. I just hadn't seen another one like it, other than on a belt buckle.

It's still cool in my book. This car is the smoothest riding 12.5 miles to the gallon I've ever got. :)
