: Insurance Question?

Does anybody here have AIG Insurance. I have been a long time customer of Progressive and all of the sudden they went through a big increase. I called them on it and they said there is just an increase for Florida that is the only explanation and we are sorry. AIG came in with a great quote so I was wondering if anybody has them. If so is there anything good or bad you can tell me?

Can't tell you anything about AIG but, I had the same situation with Farmers. I just switched to Erie (and took both of my daughters with me) and cut my rates in half. My oldest daughter went into the city (Chicago) to see some friends for the weekend and her '99 SLS was sideswiped. Busted up the mirror and scratched the drivers side door. In talking to the body shop owner he told me that most people switch insurance companies "once a year". He said that they give you a good rate to get you, and then slowly raise them. While I have been with several companies for more than a year, I can say that each one gave me a very good rate to get me. In the end, everytime I switched was because of rates. Guess I'll have to see if Erie stays low and for how long. BTW, they handled my daughters claim without any hassles and provided a rental.
P.S. I don't think Erie is in Fla. Supposedly, that is one way they keep their rates low, no hurricane payouts.

Sounds like there may be something to this theory. Competition is what keeps their prices in line. Drop 'em like a hot potato and be sure they know why you did it.

I had AAA until I got my exhibition of speed ticket...ridiculous prices because of that led me to Western United, who is a sub-company of AAA...I havn't ever had AIG insurance, but I had a car loan through them and never had any problems...didn't do much than mail in the payment, so I don't have any stories about customer service or anything, but I didn't have any problems either, which I guess is good...

I also had Progressive and they increased my policy, so I went with AIG. Which was almost half of what Progressive try to charge me. My brother has AIG also and he had an accident and the claim went smoothly, that is why I went with them..

Did you get a quote from State Farm? I've been with them 10 years now and I've got no complaints.

Boom I know the feeling I also have Progressive. Did you see that if you paid up front they give you like a 20% discount. I was like WTF, 720 now or 900 something for monthly payment.

paw 47 we have that with Nationwide as well, its called a client pay plan and its a "payment processing fee" its only $3 per payment tho. no matter how high or low the price
everyone else, i work with nationwide in North Carolina and i can say that as far as i know carriers (aig, state farm, nationwide, progressive) do not change their rates on you as long as everything remains the way it was when you wrote the policy, we have lots of complaints from people who switch from a 90's escort to a 05 escalade wondering why they pay more for insurance now, or people who got caught driving drunk wonderin why their rates went up. i will say that the insurance rate bureau (nc rate bureau here in nc) has a tax which they add to each policy, regardless of driver staus (mutual policy, standard or non standard) and i usually see that goin up per renewal, if you were one of my customers i could show you first hand what i was on my history screen, it says: (example, not real)

11-12-2005 - renewal 596.05 76.00
pymt
pymt
05-12-2005 - renewal 596.05 36.00

with the first number being wat nationwide is charging for a premium and the second being the nc rate bureaus tax

however there IS occasionally a rate hike across the whole state for all companies, but, this isnt always permanent and sometimes results in refunds like we had here last year. the way this works is this

nc rate bureau proposes new rates
nc commisioner jim long has x amount of time to disapprove
if he doesnt disapprove by x amount of time the new rates can go into place but all amounts in excess of old rates will be held in an account which builds interest
jim long has ultimate say for x more amount of time to deny new rates
if new rates are denied, the excess is returned to policyholders WITH interest

No, I knew nothing about it but I called them after reading this. They said it would make a difference of like $120.00 . They still aren't beating AIG. I asked again to please explain why the hike since I have had no problems, tickets, accidents, or incidents since I have been there customer. At first the man said it was because of Tom's truck and that I carry buisness insurance and last 6 month policy i didn't. I pulled the last policy and corrected him. We ended the conversation with him saying he was sorry and he really didn't have an answer about why the rate hike happened. I just said Thank You. I still have to look into Nationwide and Statefarm. I started the process with Statefarm today, but they needed some info I couldn't give so I have to call back. None the less AIG has the best rate for me so far.

Check out Amica Mutual. They may not be the cheapest up front, but if you select the divident option they send you money back twice a year. You end up saving a lot of money in the long run. The most important thing is handling claims. Amica is unbelievably easy to deal with in the event you get the ride all banged up. The only reason I left them was because I got married and got access to USAA.

Good luck.

I was with USAA for 3 years, and was very happy, but I got a much lower rate with GEICO. Some here have said they didn't get low rates through them, but it's worth getting a quote!
