i have a 96 deville and it is not getting good gas mileage, im getting about 16-18 around town, it has 145000 miles on it, not sure if the plugs or wires have ever been changed, i have a new k&n air filter on it, didnt seem to help any, should i change the plugs n wires n hope to get better gas mileage, or what can i do to get better gas mileage?

Check your FPR. That is a comon cause of poor milage. Plugs and wires are more likely to cause a misfire if bad. That said, at 145K it may be time.

Put the paper filter back on. It will filter more dirt.

16-18 isn't too bad actually, for a 2 ton car that has in the neighborhood of 300hp. Keep your foot out of it.

i didnt check it yet, but i called the dealer today and they said that i had a a recall on the fuel rail, i have to go in there tomorrow mornin to have them change it, does anyone know if they replace the fpr too?

they do not.

You probably will need new plug wires after they do the recall service. My 1996 had 60K when they did the service and it came out with a low rpm miss. New plug wires fixed it. I have seen at least on other post with the same problem.

did it improve ur gas mileage?

A misfire because of failed wires is VERY common. Been there, done that.

i havent had a misfire yet luckily

General concensus is stick with OEM.
