: Sub Install In Rear Panel?

Has anyone on here installed a 8 or 10 inch sub in the rear panel in the back of an 02-up escalade?

If so what all did you do to accomplish it? I have seen it done on a tahoe just wondering if anyone has tried it on an escalade?

In the 02 and 03 models is this the location of the factory bose sub? If so could I not just buy the parts for an 02 or 03 and replace the sub with a JL 8?

Mtx makes thunderforms which are the enclosure that fits in the rear panel.

The 02' Lade doesn't have the Bose sound system in it so the sub is back there. The 03' Lade has a Bose system and the sub is in the center console.

Steve I forgot about the Bose NON-LUX systems GM put in the the 02' models of the Escalade. It must of been a option and not standard because I just saw a 02 with no Bose sound system. Sorry for the wrong info.

I have a JL Audio 10W6V2 In the back side panel on a 2003 ESV. Its in a box behind the pannel and the pannel was redone to fit the sub. It sounds great!

Interesting, all the info for the 02s I have seen lists the sunroof and engine block heater as they only options beside paint. My owners manual even came with a separate little book explaining the bose system.

I'll see if I have some, Right now its getting a Kenwood DDX8017 Headunit installed. I'll post those on Friday when I get it back. I'll try to swing by the shop tomorrow and get pictures of how he mounted the Amp and of the actual box behind the panel because he was adding some vibration dampening material.

Called MTX and I was told that they do not make an enclosure for the rear panel, So it looks like I have to get one made or get a removable one for the rear behind the 3rd seat.

Ok here is what I am thinking and any input is greatly appreciated,

In my 2005 Escalade I have the rear panel but the grill isnt cut/slotted out. Therefore if I buy a completely new rear panel from a 2002 escalade which had a sub there I will have the slotted rear panel. I believe I have found the part here... PART#2

http://www.parts.com/schematics/images/G/GC00784.gif

So then I would still need the enclosure for the sub which I would again have to purchase the enclosure out of a 2002. I think this is the part for the enclosure... PART#6

http://www.parts.com/schematics/images/G/GC00540.gif

Once these are purchased then I in essence would have the rear panel like a 2002 and could just place a JL 8" sub in the rear panel and the amp wherever I decide to put it... probably under the rear seat.

Im wanting to know if this sounds correct... basically if anyone has opened up the rear panel on a 02 Tahoe, Yukon or Escalade that could confirm this?

I am also curious about these people that say a 10" sub can be mounted with "modifications" what those modifications consist of.

I am also wanting to know anyone that has installed an 8" sub what brand the sub was and if it was JL what model.

I am very interested in performing this on my vehicle I just want to make sure I am looking at all of the parts correctly and since I do not have an 02 to look at behind the panel I am hoping someone can help me out. I plan on posting a thourough guide on how to perform this if I get it done to help some other people out in the process http://suvworld.tenmagazines.com/forums/images/smile.gif

Hey i am also in the process of installing a sub in the rear panel of my 06 Escalade. I bought a JL 8W3, A JL 250/1 amp, all the wiring and the PAC interface to hook up my amp to the factory Bose amp. I would put a 10 inch sub but it doesn't look like i have much space to work with. I found a tutorial on how to remove the factory sub from a 2002 escalade with pictures and i was looking at how everything was situated. It looks like I need the same parts that Sinisterj needs. Can i get a 2002 rear panel in pewter color to match my interior? Also does anyone know the part numbers for the rear panel and sub enclosure from the 2002 escalade?

I considered purchasing one like the subbox.net one but I was afraid that it would rattle everything up front. So for bass up front I have two JL Audio 6W0's in the doors along with the midrange and tweeter. The 6W0's play down to about 50Hz.

Awesome thanks!!! This may help you find the part for the enclosure it doesnt give you the part# but you can buy the part from this site:

1) Go to http://www.cadillac-parts-dealer.com/parts.htm under body parts select a 2002 cadillac hit search on the next page select escalade

2)Under all the listings click instrument panel
3)Then sound system
4)then Speaker
5) Go to cargo area
6) Then you will have two parts one w/o enhanced speaker back and one with. I believe if you but the one without that is your enclosure... or at least thats what I am hoping!!

Hope this helps

I think I am going to try the www.subbox.net (http://www.subbox.net) set up, Its the one that goes under the seat. Anyone have that set up, I think I am going to install a 10 inch sub in it. Any advice on what type of speaker/amp combo I should use ? To me it will be the easiest install hidden away and easy to remove if I ever need to. I am not looking for big bass just something that sounds good but not to much. Thanks for any advice.

If the sub will fit my suggestion is a JL Audio 10w3 with a JL Audio 250/1 AMP... but you would need to check with subbox to see if this sub will work.

The JL wont work the box only has 5.25 depth and the jl needs 5.75. I am not looking for killer bass just something that sounds good. Any thoughts on audiobahn

Oh. I would do one 13W7 in the rear panel. Would it be a stealth box or would you have it visible? If I could just remove my stock bose sub and replace it with the 13W7, I would rather do that so when people are in the Escalade, everything looks normal but when I turn on the music, it will be a whole new world. How much does a JL 13W7 cost anyways?

Mine is the ESV model, there used to be the Jack and Parts for the spare tire there, that is on the Drivers Side. On the Passenger Side there is the AC Compressor and some parts I believe for the leveling system. It wouldn't be possible to go with 2 subs in the side because the box needs to be fairly large and the other side is occipied. I wanted to go bigger but that worked out best for me and it sounds great. Though I do have JL Audio 6W0's in the Front Doors.

i'm definitely going to want more bass than just the single 10" so i'm going to check into putting JL Audio 6W0's in the front or some other configuration.

i wish i could go with the stealth option under the seat but it looks like those only fit escalades with the bench seat. i've got the captain / bucket seats instead and have been looking around for creative ideas on what to do there. if anyone's seen anything that might work or has some ideas, let me know.

05 Cadillac Escalade

I agree with "mskdbandit", I am also looking into places to put two 10" or 12" W6's. I wanted to just have them in the trunk but they won't fit. I then thought about doing two on each side of the rear panels where the tools are for the spare and on the other side, but realized that only one would fit on the side with the tools. I don't want to remove my third row plus I don't think my Escalade would make sense if I only have four seats. I have the captain chairs and I am going to see what will fit under them. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks.

I suppose if you reformed the panel you could fit something along the lines of a JL 13W7 in there if you used fiberglass. I've seen some pictures on Car Domain of that. It depends how much bass you need. You could put the StealthBox under the console like in the Yukon if you removed the BOSE amp and BOSE sub which occupy the space now.

05 Cadillac Escalade
12-31-05, 12:09 AM
Yeah. I would rather have a stealthbox. I think it would be a lot cooler. I don't want anyone to get in and think it is any different until I turn on the sound system.

Thanks.

My car audio dealer told me that after I got my aftermarket headunit that I could have went with a stealthbox because I dumped the Bose Amp and Sub. If for some reason it wouldn't fit I am sure something could be fabricated to fit there. Some people have actually put a sub in the back behind the factory grill or cut out the factory grill in the back and let the sub grill show.

05 Cadillac Escalade
12-31-05, 12:47 PM
What do you mean when you say rear grille? If their is any possible way to fit two 10" or 12" W6's back there? I would rather do that. I honestly don't care if it is a stealthbox or not, but if possible, a stealthbox would be cooler in my opinion. If anyone has done this or something like this, please post some pictures so I can get an idea of what needs to be done.

Thanks.

The A/C unit is located on the opposite side. A 12" is a very tight fit, they are usually too deep to mount. I tried 3 different options. First was a single unit where the stock woofer and amp are located, not enough tight/fast non boomy bass for what I wanted.Next I tried a custom built enclosure that still allowed me use of the rear area but no third seat use! I finally ended up having a custom enclosure using two 10" woofers built underneath where the spare was! I've got aftermarket wheels and brakes so using the spare was never an option. :crybaby:

interesting... if you got some pics of that, i'd like to see how it turned out. also, what did that run you? i'd like to get thumping bass too but not sacrifice seating/loading capacity -- yet not spend tons of cash. i guess there's a compromise somewhere.

is that first link working for others? i'm hoping it's a pic of what it looks like beneath the carpet. from the pics that i do see, it looks like a clean install and for $800, not bad.

i just had a shop hear in NorCal (Bay Area) give me an estimate on installing a 10" sub behind the rear panel, with amps in a fabricated, wood/fiberglass housing between the captain chairs in the back for $1k.

now for the 02, is there actually a spare tire compartment because in my '03, the spare tire is underneath (and outside) of it. if it's outside like mine, then it just "feels" like $800 is a great deal for the work they had to do and $1k might be a rip-off.

I had 4 JL 6's put in a custom, sealed, glass box, made into the bottom of my tailgate. The rear bose sub was removed (it is an 02 and has the bose) and a JL 500 monoblock amp was put in the place of the old sub, it looks and sounds great. I did have to put stronger shocks on the tailgate to deal with the added weight.

I have two 10" rockford fosgate punches installed where that panel is, I had a local dealer do a custom install job that came out really well. Not only are there two 10" subs in a sealed box that have been painted to match the interior, but I didn't lose my jack space or even the cup holder by the rear passenger seat, and the box only rises up a few inches above where the standard panel was, so it doens't obscure the rear quarter window. It's not a gigantic amount of bass because it's a sealed box so you won't piss of people at a stop light, but it sounds loud as hell inside the truck. Also most importantly I can still use my third row seat and it's pretty much invisible to thieves, I had my flip down monitor stolen and they didn't even notice the custom sub box.
I'll post some pictures up once I get my new flip down installed.

that sounds like something I'd like to do. i'd like to see just how high it goes up.

i mentioned this in an earlier post in this thread i but went to a local place here in the bay area and they said they'd have to use up the entire space (jack space, cup-holder and all) and fabricate it just for a single JL 10".

They ripped out the flip down screen and the mount and cut the wires, I saw the same monitor on ebay for only $300 so I don't know what they thought they were going to get for it. Best part was they dropped their cell phone in my car and the cops did absolutely shit with it. I should have told them they stole my handgun too then maybe they would have actually looked for them.
I was going to go with two Eclipse subs buy they were too deep, the punches were shallow enough to mount into the side though. Like I said the box isn't ported because it wouldn't really work so again not as deep a bass as could be, but still nice and tight, and they were able to keep the jack space there.
I'm getting my new monitor installed next wed. so I'll post some pics up once I get everything cleaned up, I'd highly recommend this approach for anyone who wants to keep their storage space and third row capability but still wants better bass than the stock sub.

Will any JL Audio Subs fit in the rear compartments? I definitly want to keep my third row. I do know that JL Audio does make subs that are 8" and could possibly fit into the compartments because as you said, the Memphis 8" would fit. Let me know if you can help.

Thanks.

i like ur install. it seems that your shop does really good work. where did u get it done at?

Audio Innovations,
Found the shop while I was in Glendora,CA. He was recommended to me from other customers who had custom installs done there. I had them do my DVD and flip down screens first. Very nice install.

You put 3 12" subs behind the third row, but what type? Three 12's do fit back there? Definitly post pictures because I want to keep my third row and have subs back there. Would 2 JL Audio W6's fit behind the third row?

Thanks.

Maybe some 10s... you need small enclosure subs, ones that have shorter magnets...

MJA (or anyone else that has tried something similar to the Subbox.net under the seat option),

Have you received and installed your under the seat sub box yet? I am leaning towards trying that with one 10" Alumapro sub (VERY good subs, just not as well known as many others). I am curious as to how well this works, as I agree that it is probably the easiest install for a sub addition.

I'm going to get the 12w6, when I get my finances together. When you get your set-up installed show some pictures, so I can get some ideas. I really don't care that much about space in the rear.. I care to a point, but even only keeping half the space is good for me. Make sure to post something when you get it hooked up..

Well I have ordered the subbox.net under the middle row seating sub box, although I did order it from www.supercrewsound.com (http://www.supercrewsound.com), as they had the same box for a lower price. I am going to put my 10" Alumapro Alusonic sub in it, and drive it with about 300 watts. Although I am by no means looking to blow out my windows with SPL, I am hopeful that this setup will produce some powerful bass. I will certainly let people know how well it works once I have it all installed. Should have the box within about a week.

sounds like a lot of installs coming up. hope to see some pics soon.

i've been checking out local shops to see if they have any creative install ideas that won't take up lots of space (aside from using the rear install panel).

I just dont know if 1 -10' sub is going to be enough for my ESV togo in the box that mounts under the seat or I can get a box with 2-12's and just put it in the very back. then you have to move it when you need the space or worry about somone jacking it. I dont know what i want todo yet

Yea botz.. I likes that! When I get around to my sound system, I'm installing 2 of those 12" subs in my Escalade. I'm going with the 12w6v2 series.. I don't want to push the glass right off the doors or anything. Just some subs with enough durability to handle about 500rms. I have 2 Kicker DX700's.. single channel mono amplifiers. Those subs look good too that's another reason I'm interested in them.

MSKDBANDIT, Is your JL sub in a enclosure behind the panel, Is so is it custom made. Can you still use your compartment above the sub. Any more pics. Thanks for any information.

mja - got your PM but because i don't have 50 posts yet , i can't actually reply to you. i can receive PMs but can't reply to them -- seems like a minor interaction design issue :hmm:

anyway, i've only been in the research / planning phase and haven't had the sub install yet. but the guy i talked to said he'd have to replace the panel with a custom one and would give up that comparment space. although i've heard of someone here in this forum who said they were able to install a sub in the same space, without a custom enclosure and without giving up the compartment space as well.

I posted this in another thread, but since I said that I would update people reading this thread when I completed my www.subbox.net (http://www.subbox.net) install, I am putting it here too.

I recently installed the www.subbox.net (http://www.subbox.net/) subwoofer (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/#) box for the Escalade. It fits under the middle row seat, and will take either an 8 or 10" sub. I went with a 10" Alumapro Alusonic sub (250 rms, 400 peak), and am driving (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/#) it with a JBL GT601.1 (424 watts into 4 ohms). It sounds pretty good. It is not "blow your window out" bass, but is it no slouch either when driven properly. Mostly I am playing my iPod though the USA Spec PA-11 interface (digital sound delivered through the iPod's cable interface), and use various iPod EQ settings, which can really enhance the overall sound and bass. Very punchy and fairly respectable deep bass. I also installed the JBL remote knob for the amp, so I can control the bass boost/level. The box has .60 cubic ft. of inside air space, so you have to make sure the sub you use can work efficiently within those limits.

Here is what it looks like under the middle row seat.

all you need for great bass is DD setup i have a Digital Designs 3512 with a 1500 watt memphis 1501 d amp and its in a ported box behind the third row wrapped in vinyl, right now im going to look into dynomating the rear though because it reattles alot when the subs hit, any idea how much thatll cost?

before that i had a 3510 (a ten inch) with just an 800 wat amp and it hit plenty... it was in a biger box though i didnt have a third row, that was in the old escaalde though

Here is another way to put subs in the back, if you don't care that you can't put the third seat up. I just picked up my Sclade, and I do want the third seat, so I had the custom enclosures taken out.

Will take advice please on how much I should sell the enclosures, 10 inch JL W6 subs, and associated JL 500/1 Amp for.
