View Full Version : Damn, these DTS lose value when you drive em off the lot ussyorktown 11-27-05, 11:39 AM I was messing around with the autotrader and just for the heck of it, put in for a 2006 DTS anywhere in the USA.

Bewley Allen Cadillac Sales in Alhambra California

Bob Heath (Resale) / SterlingSilverDTS 11-29-05, 12:25 AM This happens w/all cars unless you hold onto it for about 30-40 years and it's in mint condition and original after all that time. American iron...what did you expect?:yup: Could be worse. Could be a Phaeton, which loses even more of its value per mile. ussyorktown 11-29-05, 10:39 AM Sort of off topic but the future of the hybrid cars doesn't seem very bright. According to the Detroit News this morning, editorial;
"A hybrid shortcircuit
Gasoline-electric hybrid cars get the fuel economy buzz, but they still don't pay for themselves at the pump. Edmunds.com found that the Ford Escape hybrid would break even over five years with its gasoline counterpart only if gas cost $5.60 a gallon. For a Toyota Prius, the tipping point is $10.10 (compared with a Corolla). That's hardly electrifying.":banghead: mccombie_5 11-29-05, 01:16 PM Could be worse. Hi Mccombie 5,
you might won`t even get 45 K for your VW.
Here in Germany they sold them for 30 - 40 % under MSRP - Brand New ones!!
A Volkswagen with this price tag on will never be a success.
Even if the car is good - the nameplate isn`t for a luxury car.

Its very likely I wouldnt get near that to be honest, thats the book price, but we all know that they arent even meeting that.
Its a fantastic car, but its only a 3.0 V6 Diesel, smallest engine, but 29 mpg!
I won't be selling it anyway, the only reason it cost £72k was that I optioned it up like a W12 model, and we all know options dont return massively, they just make the car easier to sell for little over or the same price. I bought it because tiw as a good car, and I cant complain :D:D:D

It didn't make sense to me either. And the guys that made this decision make millions a year. A 70-80K car with a VW on the trunk won't ever sell.
VW should have done the same as Toyota did with the new Lexus nameplate. Maybe the car should have been a Phaeton and forget the VW part. It looks like a nice car though. Playdrv4me 12-05-05, 02:30 PM Hi Mccombie 5,

The car is spectacular, there is no ifs ands or buts about that. And holy crap... 40 percent under MSRP!!!! Thats insane! Someone already mentioned the Phaeton, how about the Porsche Cayenne Turbo? Lol :histeric: :histeric: (sorry to the people that did buy one). A guy wanted to trade one in that was a year old, he was offered around $55,000 for it!! $40,000 down the drain in one year :alchi: . you loose 30% as soon as you drive off the lot ...!!
been there ... ouch ....
buy slightly used ... let someone else take the hit .. Devil_concours 01-22-06, 11:07 AM It didn't make sense to me either. And the guys that made this decision make millions a year. A 70-80K car with a VW on the trunk won't ever sell.

vw does have a luxury name plate, it's called audi. If you look at phaton next to A8 you will see the resemblence. megeebee 01-24-06, 12:08 PM Never buy, always lease. 74el-doggdropper 01-25-06, 06:35 AM exactly why u dont buy brand new GEORGEC 02-04-06, 03:03 PM I was messing around with the autotrader and just for the heck of it, put in for a 2006 DTS anywhere in the USA.

That is really not much less than sticker for a basic DTS I. I saw a DTS I on the dealers lot today for about that price. It has a few miles because it had been used as an official vehicle at a golf tournament. Still it was being sold as a new vehicle.

you`re wrong concours,
the luxury nameplate from volkswagen is Bentley - it belongs to vw since two years.
you are right, the A8 and phaeton uses the same platform.
To volkswagen belongs: Audi - Skoda - Bentley - Lamborghini.
The Pheaton will not be replaced by a new model - was a flop!!!!

what i meant was that just like acura has a corresponding model in the honda lineup, audi is the same with vw lineup
also bently is too much of an ultra luxury name plate. harryctsv 02-06-06, 09:25 AM what i meant was that just like acura has a corresponding model in the honda lineup, audi is the same with vw lineup

I agree, the same with Rolls Royce and BMW.
Harry DoctorWEJ 02-07-06, 07:15 PM For the most part, you can purchase the high-end Cadillacs for about 50% less 2 years later. Of course you won't get this type of deal at an authorize dealership but you can get this type of deal at some of the unauthorized dealerships. For example, you can purchase a 2004 Deville DTS for about $26,000. [quote=harryctsv]you`re wrong concours,
and who was in the original AutoUnion ..??? OOOO Cadillacboy 02-11-06, 06:44 PM Is there any ca that doesn't lose its value .If you think this way I don't think you wouldn't be dissappointed .
You wanna see how other big guns lose their value but you know even the name of Cadillac surmounts 'em all by far and it's worth when you buy such a great and excellent car at a fractions of cost considerin Mercedes Benz S-Class,BMW 7 Series,Jaguar XJ8,Rolls Royce and Bentley
I think when Cadillac in space age , other posh and expensive brands just in crawling stage lol Addendum to DoctorWEJ
I think you are right and many studies have concluded " Buy a two (2) year old car every two years."
Some folks don't think leasing is for individuals at all. It is really just RENTING WHOLESALE. Reader's Digest did an expose' a few years back after it was revealed that over 50,000 lawsuits where filed claiming that an indiv went into dealership to PURCHASE a new auto and where diverted by salesperson into a leased automobile that indiv would never own. Interesting article to read.
Ownership is important to most people.
Remember that the term "PREOWNED AUTO" had origins w Cadillac marketing programs. When you purchase a two year old Caddy you are not buying a Used Car it is PREOWNED. People will line up to buy a cadillac w 100K k miles on it esp if they know the history ownership and presumed maintenence. Tommy Deville 02-18-06, 08:27 PM I have owned a lot of cars in my time 4 caddys,1 LSC, 1 Auora. The best Car I ever ownede was my VW Passat 6cyl 5spd, loaded, rode just asw nice and was as tight as the day I bought it. The sticker was $29,890.
The Patheon looked like a strecthed Passat, Still nice, but my god talk about sticker shock, should have made it availble in stick. Hello Tommy Deville. Are you saying that the VW Passat rides just as nice as a Cadillac or are you saying it rode just as nice as the first day you bought it or both?
