400 hp Solstice. We all new it was coming. $37,000 for a car that will smoke a C6, Elise, Boxster and just about any other two seater you can think of for the price.

Funny story, I took my wife into the Pontiac dealer to encourage her to consider the GTO and she was captivated by the Solstice. Ever since, I've been trying to push her towards the Mallet Solstice - she hasn't said no, so that's a good sign we'll be in the market toward the end of next year....

Only 100 copies so you'd better hurry.

Whoops, not likely then. I wasn't aware production was going to be so few.

thats been out for a while now...

I think GM may have somethign up their sleeve similar to this is it all works well... either that or REALLY boosting the Ecotec that is in it (more then they will be)

That and the Sky are 2 very cool cars.

Yeah, the DOHC engine (Rick) in the Solstice will get a turbocharger for the GXP model, which will produced somewhere near 250HP...

Nice.....its a deathtrap though.

That DOHC being the Ecotec this is quite a little engine!

Check this out:

http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/images/engines/2200_curve.jpg

For a 2.2L DOHC 4banger WITH NO VVT! (OMG HOLY CRAP)

that is a freakin FLAT torque curve for such an engine... Honda can't touch that.

I like the Ecotec, and when it gets supercharged, you gotta see what its going to do to the torque.....

Its funny though... GM has the Ecotec, yet people still claim GM is behind Honda...

the Ecotec can be built up to 1000HP... it is all forged internals (IIRC) and the stock bottom end can support around 400hp or so.

If I was buying a 4cylinder, you'd sure bet it would be an Ecotec.... this engine is so advanced that they were able to help the DOHC not only make this a decent engine for running around town, but also high revving HP.

This is among the very few 4 cylinder gasoline engines used in a car I actually like... alot.

While it's no surprise around here I'm no fan of Saturn, this is a nice surprise. The Ecotec is one hell of an engine, I think GM should really be promoting it against the Vtec.

IMO, the Ecotec is the best production 4cylinder out.

It is going to be getting boosted... in fact, isn't it already s/c in the Saturn Red Line?

GM *DOES* need to promote it... but just like their lack of advertisment for the Northstar in the 90's, they are going to choke the Eco by not letting it be known..... they gotta do SOMETHING.

But thats why a 250hp s/c Eco in the Solstice, would be a damn good powerplant! Many people quickly look and see its a 4banger... but I disagree... this is not your typical Honda 4banger... GM scored a massive hit with this bugger.

RELIABLE! people have well over 100k miles and no problems or anything... it really is a great design every way you look at it.

Notice how this 2.2L DOHC 4banger actually has more torque then HP? THAT is the sign of a true powerful engine, now before someone comes back with the LS7 as an example... there are exceptions... but Honda can't get anywhere near figures like this (torque higher then HP) and they are using V-Tec to try and help it.

GM isn't as behind as the media/magazines make it out to be.

What Rick? You actually LIKE an OHC engine:sneaky:??? :lildevil:

Anyway, I think the Ecotec in the Solstice gets 170HP, not 140...
