When the long-awaited Dodge Challenger concept debuts in January at the Detroit auto show, enthusiasts inevitably will compare it with the classic 1970 version. The new Challenger will boast a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8, a six-speed manual transmission, dual hood scoops and a piston-grip shifter. Underneath the skin is a shortened version of the LX platform used for the Dodge Charger and Magnum.

Drool! The retro craze is awesome. I'd love to see a T/A version. Not the six-pack of course, but the megaphone sidepipes were really cool.

A 6.1 Hemi eh? Guess GM's gonna have to built a few more LS7's!

That's my next car, I love the early drawn concepts. The base price is trying to stay competitive with the Mustang market, so I expect the base price to start around $25,000. I love the "new" retro look like the new Mustang, but the GTO looks like hell and the Charger isn't that much better.

The Challenger was a legendary muscle car, and I'm glad Dodge got the look right on this one. I'm waiting for the R/T version!

Theres something really macho about these things....but my personal favorite has always been a solid aluminum/titanium ball shifter.

All that’s left to ponder is “will they build it?” With all the hardware in place and a primed marketplace, we can’t see why Dodge wouldn’t rise to this challenge. (http://autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103629)

That rear-end and quarterpanels are exceptional! Very appealing, and very classic looking. Of course, there goes Chrysler putting 58 inch rims on another vehicle.......

I'd REALLY love to see a new Hemi 'Cuda! :thumbsup:If they were around chances are pretty good that the 'Cuda would look just like the Challenger. You could buy one of these new Challengers and make your own 'Cuda with early badges and redo the tail lights. I know it would be cheating but the big three do it all the time, why can't we? :p

Oh no...I must have one. Damnitall, why did you have to put those pics up!?

So, I'm unfamiliar with the whole concept car to reality thing...IF they decide to do it, what kind of timeframe are we looking at here? I have to get my points off my record and start saving... :)

I think Dodge could have one out in 2 to 3 years.

Now I can't wait till January to see how the Camaro concept looks!

HOLY CRAP!!! That thing is sweet! what the hells is GM gonna do about this. Sit on their ass as usual? If they don't come out with a new Camaro, or T/A,..ect in the near future, I'm afraid they might loose alot more than just money. I've never been much of a MOPAR fan, but I always did like the Challenger. I could definitely see myself driving that car.

This 6.1 Hemi is really gonna be something special, looks like the LS7 has competition. It's time for the next GM pony car.

It doesn't do anything for me personally, but I agree that Dodge got it right - all of the MOPAR fans out there are probably losing their minds right now, and I'm sure that the guys who grew up with the classic Charger will all rush out to buy one.

I think the retro thing works for some, BUT, and this is a very BIG BUT -

I think GM should look to the future, not the past, for thier next muscle car. IF they want to use an old name (like Chevelle or Fiero (Don't use Camaro, T/A, or Firebird - they're dead and buried) that's fine, but the car needs to set the bar, not look back on the bar set 30 years ago...I mean, if they could do all of that body molding on the Solstice, I'm sure they can go crazy with the next muscle car...

It's pretty much impossible to make a modern muscle car, you HAVE to look to the past for a modern version of an old muscle car. Sports cars are leading the way in terms of technology and power which muscle cars could NEVER do. Muscle cars are:

1) Dirt cheap
2) Full of power
3) No-Frills (no fancy gadgets and gizmos)

Therefore it's impossible to create a muscle car that "sets a bar" since basically it doesn't have all the frills modern cars have. Sports cars are setting the bar for new innovations.

Yeah thanks. One of my all time favorites. It was a toss up, between Walter, or Jeff. I was gonne put Jeff up there with a caption that said, "His Royal Dudeness", but Walter won out, mostly because I couldn't think up a good sig that would work with Jeff.
