I took my grandmother to see this movie today. Excellent!! One of the best movies I've seen in many years.

Reese Whitherspoon has some pipes on her. She could be a country singer.

Don't get fooled about it's Johnny Cash story line. It's a tear jerking love story. It's also about sin and redemption.

Johnny led an interesting life, and it was very sad to see how he wasted away in the end. Looking at his final video, "Hurt" he looked very rough. Was a hard video to watch.

Joaquin Phoenix is one Hell of an actor, although I haven't seen him in this film yet. I understand that he did the singing in this film, in which he does quite a good impersonation of Cash.

This film was so good me and my friend are not sure why we liked it so much. Certainly the performances were terrific, but there was just something about everything that was sincere and worked well in this movie. Phoenix does an absolutely terrific job as Cash and does indeed sing all the vocals himself. He actually lowered the timbre of his entire vocal range for this movie.

Haven't seen it, but it sounds like this thing has Oscar written all over it.

Isn't Phoenix a PETA fanatic? Or am I off...I seem to remember his doing a Thanksgiving commercial last year where he said we should eat tofu turkeys...

I've heard Witherspoon pretty much pwned this movie...which is a good thing. I'll see it eventually, but Harry Potter is first:lildevil:

Witherspoon almost quit several times because the singing was so intense and demanding. She enjoyed doing the movie but vowed never to sing again on Charlie Rose last night on PBS. She said many times she wanted to quit and many times the directors themselves didnt know if she was right, but they knew when it all came together she was the best pick for the part, and I agree.

The last song in the movie, Jackson, she really let go ala June Carter. June had some gruffy blues deep down in her voice and everyonce in awhile it would come out. Reese did a great job of adding some of that gruff.

I've always like Reese, and this role has solidified her as a great actress in my book. :worship:

Too bad she won't sing again. :ill:

June wasn't a very good singer. And she didn't look anywhere near as good as Reese.

Just take a close listen to "If I Were a Carpenter" and you'll know what I'm talking about.

She sounds good to me on my Live at Folsom LP! :yup:

Her voice wasn't smooth and syrupy but she held her own in her own style as I recall.

I just got back and I really enjoyed the movie. I knew the rough idea of his life, this movie answered some questions.

In an Appalachian, marry your cousin, kiss your sister kind of way...

Well, I guess it's not an accident.

Since it was in response to something HRS said, and then again in response to my post, here's what I think is going on...

Nothing wrong with making fun of a few bush trolls, especially the poster known as Elvis.

ON Topic - I plan on going and seeing this movie.

ON Topic - I plan on going and seeing this movie. Please tell me that Elvis is your friend and you are only joking with him here because I am having difficulty seeing that.

Otherwise I would like to remind everyone of this line found in the rules we all agreed upon when we became members;

"Respect both forum moderators and administrators."

I don't know how Elvis feels about this but I will take offence and action at any disrespect toward moderators and administrators that I see in my areas of responsibility.

Let's all play nice here OK?
