More from the peanut gallery of Peter Horbury... ex-Volvo designer...

Apparently, his excuse for the Zephyr and other bland Lincoln designs is that Lincoln has always been the antithesis of Cadillac, and has always played to a softer more subtle appearance than the more garish Cadillac. Ok right... that is the most ridiculous cop-out Ive ever heard. Moreover, he wants the Zephyr to compete with not just the CTS, which is somewhat on target, but also the Acura TL, and Lexus GS350... which is absolute insanity when the car only has 221hp and such an odd shape and average interior...

Ford doesn't need Lincoln to be their top luxury car company. With also having Volvo, Jaguar, and Aston Martin they have more then enough other cars as well as companies to target their products towards different people/crowds. Unlike GM who just has Cadillac. So for GM guys its easy to say why doesn't Lincoln compete against Cadillac? The answer is because they don't have too

It was also easy for Ford guys to say why the CTS didn't compete with the LS, when it first came out. But we both know how badly the CTS started beating on the LS.
Ford DOES need Lincoln to compete with Caddilac, as the other companies you mentioned are not American.

Is the Zephyr RWD? What platform is it on?

so that's it? Lincoln threw in the towel? Cadillac 1 Lincoln 0. i love Lincoln and i wish they would get more serious with there vehicles. we are one step closer to killing them off.

Bah, Lincoln aint dead, and I think it would be smarter of them not to try and copy Caddy's emulation of the Euros. These days, I'll tke the town Car over the DTS, no questions. Especially true since I messed up my back...

I'd take the town car too, but this ain't about the town car. It's about the Zephyr, which is horrible underwhelming. Just like the new Lincoln pickup, they're models are too close to the Ford equivalents. Around these parts I can have an F150 Lariat, a fully loaded Ford 500 AND a Mustang GT for the same cost it would take to get a Lincoln Mark pickup and a Zephyr. The Zephyr has 221 hp. 221.

Guys as far as Im concerned, except for the Fusion which is a nice little car for Ford, and will be better once it gets the 3.5, the Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr for some reason really ring "Mercury Mystique/Ford Contour" or worse "Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz". We had one of those Topaz abominations TWICE while I was growing up and I couldnt stand them.

Again, I think the Fusion does a good job competing with the Malibu and even the Impala on some levels, but the Zephyr is just bad.

Honestly? If they wanted to keep something understated and elegant, the proper choice would have been to go ahead with the Fusion, drop the Milan and Zephyr, and design the Lincoln version of the 500 Platform with a better engine... DUH!!
